I'm considering. I'm rather disappointed at the lack of variety in the lineup.

The two tickets I have are for the early session. I need to confirm with the girlfriend on us cancelling. I'll post again on Monday. (This weekend I am sans Internet.)

Lister, I've lurked on this site for 4 years but you've managed to pull me out. I do not mean to be rude, but your above comment is without a doubt the stupidest thing I have read on here. Ever. I missed last year's Cask event but I’m going this year and that lineup is the best I have ever seen for a GTA beer event. And as an above poster mentioned, there is variety; it isn't an IPA fest or anything. But more importantly, it is a lineup full of creativity, which is something Ontario Craft Brewers are really starting to run with. Your comment is a slap in the face to them and to everyone who likes good beer (and I will admit to working in the industry).

Lister I've always respected you and your posts, as you give a different perspective on craft beer, and you don't mind going against the grain (in a polite and effective way). But you need to stop talking out of your ass with comments like above.

I'll post again in another 4 years.

Cheers

Always nice getting the lurkers to crawl out of the woodwork.

I'll keep this short and sweet for now as my body hurts like hell, have zero energy, my head hurts, I feel like shit and would like nothing more than to curl up in the fetal position except that'll hurt my back more. (I wish this was from a weekend of drinking but it's not.) My post was originally longer to go in hand with my thoughts on the recent C'est What festival but time didn't allow me to finish those posts hence the short one largely to gauge the interest in buying my tickets.

I should have included that the creativity of the beers at both events didn't meet my expectations of what those events should be. My opinion of course. Not that that really matters 'round here. I will say that there are three of what I would deem creative beers at Cask Days: Big Dog Beaujolais Porter, Pear Ginger Oatmeal Stout and H&H Overkill. The latter two of which I'm guessing I won't care for but I'm curious to try them anyways.

Anyways, maybe I'll post more detailed thoughts later this week or next when I'm feeling better. Or maybe not. I don't care right now.

Lister, you are certainly living proof of the old adage that you can't please everybody. Your opinion does matter around here...all opinions matter, even if they're completely insane!

I'm fascinated to know what events like this "should be" in your opinion. Did you personally want 23 different cask lambics or fruit laced beers? What were you expecting when you bought the tickets bearing in mind last year's cask fest?

Fact is, this is one of the only events OF ITS KIND in the entire country. Most, if not all, of the brewers are making one-offs or variations of their usual beers. Brewers who don't even have a presence in this market are showing up with unique offerings...and all CASK!!! Many don't usually even do cask ale as part of their mainstream business...that's a creative undertaking all on its own.

IMHO this event is at the very vanguard of what these events should be...and that opinion has nothing to do with my preference for bitter, hoppy ales. I guess it comes down to how you define "creative beers". I could filter a batch of pale ale through my grannie's knickers...would that count?

I really am dying to know how this event could've been more to your liking.

I sincerely hope you are feeling better. Back pain sucks.

Cameron's is bringing our first cask ever (available to the public) to this event. It's a unique event and we're really excited about being there this year. It's not an easy undertaking for the breweries that don't normally do casks, just finding a cask to borrow was a challange.

Hope you guys have a good time and thanks to Ralph for taking the time to host such a fun event.

We are bringing a hopped up Auburn we have lovingly named Hopburn.

This list of cask ales is the best list of beers I have ever seen for a local beer event. Despite last years tasty and creative variety of cask ales, Ralph has outdone himself with this year's list of beers. Its certainly encouraging to see these local brewers going way outside the box with this effort. Something tells me there is going to be some hangovers on Sunday morning after trying so many of these interesting beers. Its great there are events such as this!

I was so excited about this event but due to unforeseen circumstances, I'll have to be out of town that weekend. I have a ticket to the evening session that I'm forced to sell. I'll be at Volo this week (probably Wednesday night) and could leave it for someone if you can't meet me in person. Sorry it's only one ticket. And more sorry I'll have to miss both the beers and meeting some of you.

Anyone interested?

ISO one or two tickets for either session; preference is for the early session.

Thanks,
Brian

I plan to be at the first session. Hope to sample many fine cask ales from my Ontario brethren.
The beers I sent were: Admiral Perry, an Imperial IPA with 8% alcohol and a whopping 123 IBU (all chinook) balanced with residual maltiness, and then dry-hopped. It tasted great from the fermenter, so fingers crossed.
I also sent a pin ( sorry, it's all I had) of the pilot batch of 2006 Katarina.
Can't wait to see you all.

Just a ghostly echo from the past here, guys - I'll be there for the morning session, hope to see you guys there. I'll be wearing a red Michigan Summer Beer Festival 2006 t-shirt and a mug of Perry's new Imperial IPA.

Cheers.

Aww... I'm there for the evening session. Was hoping to see you. I thought you industry folks were going to be there for both sessions.

You early goers better save some for the late shift!

Thanks once again to Ralph and the crew at Volo!

The event was superb and the beer was exceptional. I particularly liked the Dieu du Ciel beers (both) and the Biergotter beers (both). There were many others which were also fantastic but those four really stood out.

Came back in reasonable shape...not as hammered as I had been last year! Glad I didn't have a ticket for both sessions...that would've been madness.

Yes indeed, big kidos to Ralph & co. for once again pulling off an exceptional event. And thanks to all the brewers for the fantastic line-up of beers. I had so many great ones that it's hard to pick a favourite, but the Biergotter Hopocalypse was definately up there - someone give these guys some money to open a brewpub!
