I'm positive the label thing on the shelf said "Rogue Brutal Bitter $3.95". I remember the Trafalgar Oak Aged Rye was the same price, which I thought was a tad bit odd, but didn't think too much of it. I'm not now, nor was I then, upset at all, just startled.
I thought about going back to ask about it when I was walking out of the store (this was in the morning and I was pretty much the only person there), but I hate raising a fuss about things like that . I worked retail way too long and am too respectful and courteous to service people to bother then too much. It's sort of an ineffective personal policy to follow sometimes, but it's something I can't really help  . Work at a Tim Horton's for an extended period of time, you'll understand where I'm coming from (I don't mean that in a condescending way). It's honestly not a big deal to me as long as I can still pay for what I want. No real harm was done, I recovered from my state of shock before I got on the bus back to res . |

I wonder what the LCBO's policy is on mispriced items? In the UK the general practice seems to be that if an item is wrongly priced you have to sell it to the customer at that price. Not sure if this is because of consumer protection law or of the prevailing policies amongst the retail industry. Man...Rogue for less than $4 would be an absolute steal! |

| I can guarantee you the shelf tag was $5.95. They're printed from the LCBO computer system and will reflect the same price that is on the website. If you think $5.95 is a lot, wait until the new hop prices kick in. |

The policy is that we give it to you for the price on the tag. But you have to bring the tag up, or bring it to someone's attention.

King and Northfield. I'm sure I'm not the only person here who finds it annoying when customers stand there and argue with a poor cashier over the price of an item.
I'd just like to state AGAIN, that it really isn't that big a deal with me. Nor should it really be a big deal. This was just after the store opened, and I don't know if they'd had the product out for very long. Seriously. Let it go. If I can do it so easily you can too. With all due respect, no, you can't guarantee me that it was $5.95, as I'm not blind. Although there is a chance it was all some crazy psychedelic drug trip. Although that is incredibly unlikely. But it wouldn't be the first time I've paid more than the shelf tag says I should. When all the beers for this release first came in they were mis-labeled. Mistakes happen, I understand that (I know I know, they were labeled with the old price, but then if that was still in the computer system, why did they come out as costing more at the cash?)(unless they fixed the price the second I got to the cash).
The tag has probably been corrected by now. But I know it said $3.95, which is a typical price for something in a bomber (give or take). NO ONE WAS HURT, IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing that really bothers me is the location of the tag. You actually have to crouch down and ben over to see it, it is so low to the ground. I think that would be a better issue to raise with them. |

Right. It's not Rogue Half-E-Wussy (an experimental Rogue beer) -- Brutal Bitter is one of the real solid Rogues with good, long flavors for the style.
There have been some up/down/up price adjustments with Rogue stuff at LCBO, or at least I am fairly certain. Screw it. man, I'd rather drink a GOOD beer than cry over eighty cents.
Dead Guy's gonna be here in six-packsl!!! Talk about a luxury warm-weather beer for 2008...

Enjoying a Brutal Bitter now....delicious!
I enjoyed the Dead Guy Ale when it was in at Xmas 2006, but prefer this to it. Now the Chocolate Stout rocks of course. Haven't had a Rogue I didn't enjoy yet.
If you consider this beer goes for $15-20 at any bars in TO, the $5.95 is quite 'drinkable'. |

| Well I just sent my bro to the same store that JesseM went to...to pick me up some Westmalle Triple...the shelf price was $3.10 and they tried to charge him a fair bit more than that (he said $3.85 but probably $3.95) so the clerk had one of the employees check the shelf price and sure enough it's $3.10...so they charges him $3.10. I wonder if $3.10 was the old price? They keep old tags around that long? |

The old system price was <> three bucks so yeah, plus deposit = 3.10??
At either 3-4 bucks it's an absolute steal, and my 2005 stock is still drinking extremely well - 'buy hold & prosper' I say.
Thank God we aren't paying Bordeaux-style price increases from year to year on these Belgian Trappists. The grape juice market over there is truly screwed up at this point and makes no sense... just some perspective!! At the 'lower end' I bought some Ch. Potensac Medoc last year @ $35 and this year it's up to $50. That's fifteen more dollars of mostly pure greed & for that one bottle price you could get 12-15 bottles of really nice Trappist beer.

The dead guy is decent, but the name has certainly helped its popularity. Apparantly it didn't sell nearly as well as "Maier Bock", which I think is actually a cooler name... being a mai bock (brewed with pacman ale yeast and American malts) by John Maier.
But then it's not really a Mai bock...
I would like to see a real Maibock (Continental malts & lager yeast).

Jan- The LCBO in uptown has all their beers mis-labeled too, you should go there to pick up some Orval for $3.10!
Derek- You wouldn't happen to know why the name of the beer is "Rogue Dead Guy Ale", when it's listed as a Heller Bock on ratebeer, would you? I'm so confused. I'm asking you because I figured you might know. Also, aren't maier bock and heller bock the same style? |

"Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogues proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast. It is deep honey in color with a malty aroma, rich hearty flavor and a well balanced finish. Dead Guy is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan malts, along with Perle and Saaz Hops. Dead Guy Ale is available in 22-ounce bottles, 12-ounce 6-pack, and on draft.
Measurements: 16 degrees Plato, IBU 40, Apparent Attenuation 78, Lovibond 16"
FWIW, Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock uses an ale (weizen) yeast. 'Bock' refers to the strength, not necessarily a type of lager. I'm not sure if it's because goats are strong, or what? |
