I'll be driving to Colorado, primarily the Denver area, for a vacation. I've got a list of micros and brew pubs along the way and while we're there, but I'm looking for some opinions on which ones I should make an extra effort to visit.
Thanks. |

| Probably obvious but as long as you're in Denver, check out Great Divide. |

Be sure to go to Falling Rock, which has boatloads of taps. Drink half pints so you can get through lots of beers |

Hey folks....
Did a search on Denver and saw a few old threads come up, thsi was the most recent.
I'm flying in/out of Denver in early July. Have about 26 hours at the end of the trip to 'explore' the city and sample some food and brews and pick some up to bring home.
Looks like the stops I'll make are:
For sure - Great Divide, Falling Rock Tap House, Total Beverage
Possibly - Wynkoop, Avery (outside denver)
Anyone have other tips? Is Total Beverage the 'spot' to pick up some bottles for bringing back home? Any other gems to visit?
I'll visit New Belgium on way way north to Wyoming at the start of my roadtrip.
(Will also be driving through Wyoming and, ummm, Utah, if anyone has beer tips there too) |

There's no way that will be enough time to enjoy the many beer offerings available in and around Denver. We were there for a week last summer and barely scratched the surface. I don't know why, but I was disappointed by Wynkoop. I thought the beer was just okay. Great Divide is a must...and Flying Dog would have been too if they were still brewing in Denver as it was only a few blocks from GD.
Avery is definitely worth your while as there are 8 breweries and brewpubs in Boulder. It's not that long a drive and it's an excellent day trip. We visited Boulder Brewing, Mountain Sun, BJ's, Walnut and Twisted Pine in Boulder and the beer and hospitality was great in each one. Try the Espresso Stout at Twisted Pine. A caveat, though, make sure you've got a designated driver and check the hours for the ones you want to visit, because Avery's tasting room isn't open Monday or Tuesday.
A trip to Fort Collins will also give you a lot of bang for your buck with CooperSmith's brewpub and Fort Collins and Odell breweries as well as New Belgium.
There's not much in Wyoming, but Cheyenne has a couple of brewpubs that weren't bad. |

Thanks kinguy...
Ya the trip is for other purposes, but I figured I'd take advantage of Denver area at the end of my trip. Hence also wanting to hit up a bottle shop for bringing back some local goodies.
Fort Collins I'll hit up on my way 'out' of Denver....so may visit Odells or Coopersmith as well as the planned New Belgium visit.
Boulder...might be a tough one. No DD for that day, so I won't havethe ability to really 'get into it'. Thanks for the tip on Twisted Pine.
Hopefully I'll be able to sample many of these locals at the Falling Rock Tap House, since I won't be able to visit them all.
Cheers! |

Tommyknockers in Idaho Springs on the way up to Loveland Pass is a really good brewpub. And worth the drive. You can't really go all the way to Denver and not head in towards Loveland. And if you do, and go dow nthe other side a bit there is a really good brewpub in Breckenridge. I just can't remember the name of it. _________________ it's beer o'clock. |

Just to follow up on my recent trip in the US.
My first stop was to pick up some brews at the Liquor Max in Loveland, CO after leaving Denver. WOW. This place had way too much stuff, it was glorious. Since I was driving around and camping for 10 days to some places that were hitting 100 degrees I only grabbed a dozen bottles. A nice selection of glassware there too, small but some rare local selections.
Some pickups included DH 120, Hazed and Infused, Arrogant Bastard, St Bernadus 12, Stone Imperial IPA, New Belgium La Folie and some kind of brewdog beer.
The brewdog beer was great, but as the special silvery nonpaper label disintegrated in my cooler after 1.5 days I couldn't recall exactly which one I bought ; )
After that I hit Fort Collins and visited Odell's and New Belgium. Very close to eachother - 3 minutes drive, 10 minutes bike ride (love that city....everyone on bikes...) Tried some Levity on Nitro, which was tasty at Odell and sampled a few at New Belgium including the Mothership Wit.
Then enjoyed a few beers around the Yellowstone / Teton area including Rogue Morimoto Soba Ale and a special Rogue Yellowstone (which apparently is the Dead Guy Ale with proceeds supporting the park). Also had some local stuff like Big Sky Moose Drool Ale.
After that headed down to Utah, with not much going on in most places (especially on Navajo land....where only alcohol free stuff was available).
Stopped at Moab Brewery though. Nice spot. had the scorpion pale ale, belgian wit and raven oatmeal stout. The stout was quite nice and I was told won 2nd place at the last 'GABF'.
Final beer stop in denver was a crazy night at Fallign Rock, where we sampled way too many devilish brews on tap including Avery Maharaja, GD Hercules, SKA Decadent IPA, Urthel Hop-it (different, good!), Greenflash west coast IPA and hop head red and a number of others. They had Trois Pistoles on tap too!!!
I have a copy of the beer menu from Falling Rock and can scan it if anyone is interested, but I don't think BT allows attachments.
Cheers! |

I am heading to Denver in a few weeks - mostly for a family trip, but I'll get a night or two out. Thanks for all the posts here guys, I feel like I am all set. If anyone knows of any "new" Denver news, pass it along.
I cannot wait for a Falling Rock session - I think there is a ball game in the afternoon on the Thursday I am there and I think Falling Rock is close to Coors Field, so that will make for one fun day and night (and busy too with the ball game walk in traffic). |

Ya, Falling Rock was fantastic, and it is 1 block from the field....a 2 minute walk.
Therer is an actual brewery at Coors Field...Sandlot I think. Worth visiting and stopping at for a beer while you stroll around inside the park. |
