There's a chain of Greek diners/breakfast places in Brampton that I frequent. The have the sun there usually in free stands. I love reading The Sun, especially the editorial page, and how "The Editor" always responds to the letters.
I love it so much, that when I go there and there isn't one sitting there, I actually go to the store so I can PAY for one to read with breakfast.

I've often felt print Journalism to be a letdown in Ontario, first of all rarely that interesting and second of all very trite, stiff coverage (the worst is relying heavily on jargon & news-speak instead of being consistently clear in meaning.)
So while some gems really shine through (yeah, Josh R!!) I wonder if the news industry in Ontario is big and wealthy enough to attract and support good talent. If not - perhaps WE don't value it enough to support it?
These are just my thoughts, open to discussion & general attack.
I still LOVE a good newspaper with oodles of intelligent, thoughtful content (NY Times.) The world is always an extremely interesting place regardless what gets reported & how.

Just read it.
It's pretty bad. I think every time Charles Adler uses a cliche we have to take a drink.

Cliches he uses in a relatively short article:
"nanny staters"
"book thrown at them"
"turning a blind eye"
"pick your pocket"
"cash cow"
"highway robbery"
Did I miss any?
Also, I can't read his tone: whether or not he's being serious and sarcastic.
Like this:

De Struise is one of my favourite brewers. We pretty much can't get any in Ontario.
I sent the guys a msg on facebook to see if Pannepot's coming here. They're responses:

Between St. Veronus in Peterborough and Beer Bistro in Toronto, there is at least six De Struise varieties currently available.
We're also co-hosting an event with Greg Clow later this Spring where De Struise's Double Black will be served, along with some other interesting offerings from our beer portfolio.

Well, he's definately sentimental.
There may be a million billion problems with the LCBO, but cranky old man rants like this, that almost seem like he's joking, make me want to defend the LCBO.
Not only that, some of Adler's premises are just silly...in the opening paragraphs he seems to be against a drinking age, for example, and blames the entire concept on the LCBO...as though other more lax jurisdictions don't have a drinking age.
Also, as has been discussed in this thread, it's highly unlikely that privatization would automatically bring a flood of new stuff into the province.
Listing fees and delays. Lab testing. Draconian social responsibility stuff.
All these things about the LCBO suck and are prohibitive to brewers, vintners and distillers.
But that's not what this article was about. He doesn't mention anything about products, or even talk about small producers of beer and wine.
It's simply about public vs. private ownership. Which, as we've discussed here before, isn't enough.
Adler isn't so concerned about getting Saison Dupont or Pliny getting here. Or even really supporting local brewers and wineries.
He would be fine if InBev bought the whole thing and specialized in selling cases of Bud and Canadian for $18.
