Derek, do you remember that one you shared at my place? The one from Germany?
Now that was a real treat! |
Oh yeah... and that Klosterbräu was even better in Bamberg, vom fass!
I'd be surprised if the LCBO brought in anything from such a small brewery... though they do get Aecht Schlenkerla.
Their season releases just keep getting better... so you never know! |

Yeah Bock (possibly Märzen?) by tradition might sometimes refer more to the 'season' a beer is made than it being ale- or lager-based.
It is not unlikely that certain German Bocks were historically made with an ale yeast, further blurring the distinction between, say.Dubbels from Belgium and the DoppelBock. Same idea behind this ale and lager.
I think somewhere we were discussing Salvator. It's not a lager yeast fermentation either is it. The 'cleanliness' of an ale yeast employed to make a "Bock" is said to be one factor, AFAIK... just read that somewhere re: Dead Guy.
Aventinus is certainly an ale "Weizenbock". So there we have two more examples just inside Munich alone. _________________ In Beerum Veritas "... Misuse of Literally Makes Me Figuratively Insane..." |

| The Rogue Brutal Bitter is seriously good! I'm not entirely sure why that is a surprise to me, but for some reason I did not think it would be the equal of Southern Tier IPA or DFH 60, but it is all of that and perhaps better (IMO). The current LCBO stock also seems to be very fresh, with a best before of March 31, 2009. Great stuff. |

| I'm actually enjoying the Rogue more than I thought I would. The hops aren't as overblown as I was expecting, you can actually tell there's some nice sweet malt hiding somewhere back there. The Crystal also gives off some nice clementine sweetness which is alot nicer than a mit full of pine needles. Pretty good stuff. |

Agreed as well. The Rogue is my fave from this batch. Had to go pick up an extra 3 tonight because they're so good.
It's nice to have soem Westmalle dubbles and tripels in the house now too, never seemed right always only having one OR the other around. |

| The Rogue is good for a hop fix. I actually prefer it cellared a little... there's some good quality malt under that abundance of hops! |

Is the Rogue unfiltered/bottle conditioned? I haven't checked the date on mine in the fridge, but it's chock full of floaties.
Is this consistant with the others, before I open it.
I haven't checked this whole thread, but is the DFH60 part of this same release? _________________ it's beer o'clock. |

| You are all wrong,,.Rogue has a unique process whereby they fermemt their beers....a little know process but one which produces incredible beer. I think it has something to do with snails and garden slugs...gotta love Mr. Maier. |
