Today's event was a mix of good and ok.
ok was the turnout. I mean, it wasn't bad, but the GLB event last month was NUTS turnout-wise. but i guess you never know how things will go on Father's Day. there was a good crowd, but it could have/should have been better. because....
good were the one-off beer that Amsterdam's doing. Sad if you've never had the chance to try the following:
Maverick and Gose - barrel aged and blonde with a white wine-like crispness at the finish, this beer was killer. you could crush them on a hot summer day or sip it gently. no wonder it won a silver medal last week!
Frambroise Grand Cru - brett-aged berry beer. What a great beer to have after kicking the Solstice d'ete last night at the DDC event. this was less tart and more complex than Ete, and it had some nice bretty goodness to it. not an accessible to most beer drinkers, but those who will love it will love it a lot. when my wife came by to pick me up (yay me!) i gave her a sip. she was in love.
Farmhouse saison w/lacto - you ever eat those Fizz candies when you were young? this is like a lemon fizz - a nice citrusy kick at the end and some great lacto sourness. lemonade, but carbonated, fizzy and beery. yum yum!!
Kudos to Ian for brewing up some nice, progressive shit. hopefully this is only the beginning. |

Great time at the event today. The beers were all great as atomeyes described above. The BA Barleywine was super smooth and drinkable, I look forward to trying it again when the thermostat drops below 20 degrees The other one-offs were all solid as well. The Gose was very unique and might have been my "beer of the day" if we hadn't got to the sour farmhouse which was damn near perfect on a hot day. Quite fruity, just sour enough to be interesting and refreshing. Very nice stuff.
Super glad we made it out. Having three drink stations meant I didn't ever have to wait too long for a beer. Didn't see too many of the usual beer crowd, which I guess is good from the perspective of getting the word out to new people. |

Oh man, I have to try both of these. Any word on if they'll be available anywhere else? |

Sounds like an awesome day, and simply more proof that Ian is awesome! _________________ "What can you say about Pabst Blue Ribbon that Dennis Hopper hasn’t screamed in the middle of an ether binge?" - Jordan St. John |

i was volunteering at one of the food booths. a biker was ordering food and we were talking. i asked him if he had any beer yet and he said no, since he overindulged last night and didn't think it would be worth it to try an Amsterdam beer.
my guess is that's what people were saying about Great Lakes before Project X was started.
Ian's one-offs were as good, if not better, than any project x beer. yep. i went there, i said it.
if they got Maverick and Gose into circulation, people would go nuts. the farmhouse sour would be huge among beer geeks (and people would bitch that they're paying $9 for a tulip glass).
but yeah, Amsterdam's now for real.
if i had to say "rank your top 3 brewers in Ontario", you would have some legit contenders battling it out (including House Ales at Volo) |

Details starting to come together for our next one on July 2nd. This will be your last chance to go to Brewer's Backyard until mid-August!
Kensington will have their Augusta Ale & Watermelon Wheat (very limited quantities).

Stay tuned for more details. |

We're also partnering with the Griffin Gastropub in Bracebridge to do a "Battle of Wits" wit beer event on Sunday, July 1st.
Noon onwards, we'll have different wit beers available from a number of breweries, which should include:
- Bellwoods
- Mill Street
- Indie Alehouse
- Six Pints
- Hop City
- Amsterdam
- Lake of Bays
- Muskoka
Food will be provided (and proceeds to support) the Muskoka Hospice. Also live music. One beer will be crowned the champion at some point during the event!
Should make for a nice Sunday for those interested in a trip up to Bracebridge. |

Great event today, thanks for everyone who came out. Black Oak, Cheshire Valley & Kensington had all kinds of beers available and great food from Rock Lobster & Burger Bar.
Taking a little break until August 12th. Mill Street will be in there next time, working out the details. Stay tuned.
We're also helping out the Brick Works with beer for a eco-friendly film night series they're doing. Will post up more about that in a little bit. |

| Thoroughly enjoyed the miso-hop-mayonaisse (hope I got that right) on the tacos from Burger Bar. Could make for a delicious burger condiment! |

Brock has been playing around with hops as a cooking ingredient for some time. I remember back in the fall he had hop infused meatballs. _________________ "What can you say about Pabst Blue Ribbon that Dennis Hopper hasn’t screamed in the middle of an ether binge?" - Jordan St. John |
