Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

You know why the LCBO will never stop selling macros, even right next to the Beer Store? For the same reason you see colossal pyramids of Corona before every long weekend ... it sells. The LCBO loses money on micros/interesting imports, and moving out the macros will just decrease foot traffic and a...

Musings on a hot day...

Why is it, on a day such as today, after you've been coated in a thin layer of perspiration whilst trudging the pavement, that a cool beer seems like manna from heaven? No other drink seems to hit the spot so well ... be it Perrier, soda, iced tea. All pale in comparison to the enjoyment of a weisse...

I chickened out and ended up at the Rebel House (too many so-so opinions of the Granite). I knew the atmosphere at the bar would be good and I wasn't proved wrong. The beer selection was a bit thin for those wanting darker ales, but I 'survived' with some Neustadt 10w30 and Arkell Best. The steak wa...

Granite Brewpub

Hello all... I'm wondering if anyone has been to the Granite lately... and might tell me how the food, service, and so on is of late. I've been desperately trying to save money for school next year (hence the lack of Volo reports recently) but I just got word today that I don't have to worry about t...

Heritage Cask-Conditioned Lager

Anyone tried this? Listed on the OCB website but no ratings on Ratebeer... sounds very intriguing.

Mondovino was a very interesting look not just at the French wine industry, but the wine industry as a whole. How the tastes of one extremely popular wine writer has led to a homogenisation of wine production in the large estates worldwide (could this ever happen with beer ... everyone trying to mak...

The port glasses I have are the same shape, but I doubt they're more than 4 oz. Still, look at the place I mentioned before you order away for something.

How big is it?

I have a set of port glasses that are exactly the same shape. I bought them at the "Kitchen and Glass" store just north of Bloor on the west side of Yonge. Lots and lots of different glasses there.

Weekly Volo Report - June 26th

After wisely avoiding Yonge yesterday (I don't like noise and commotion) I'm afraid I've got little to report. For most part see last week's post... but: New On Tap Mill Street Organic Mill Street Stock (both of these were finishing up today) (I wonder what the connexion is between the event and the...

I know this is a stupid question, but... What person, or group of persons, is in charge of these selections? Why can't we speak to them directly? Why won't they tell us their selection/rejection criterion (criteria, if it isn't just 'what sells')? No disrespect to esprit, but it would be nice if the...

Food Questions

I have noticed on Ratebeer that beer lovers often have good food advice (perhaps there should be a "Food and Beer" section here?). Toronto is maddening sometimes because it is impossible to find certain food products. So I ask you all, in your infinite wisdom: 1. Where can one buy a decent...
