There are agents in Belgium that acquire it and resell it. It's considered grey market, but apparently the LCBO does not worry much about that as long as it passes their lab standards i'm not exactly going to put anything past the LCBO, but I highly doubt these came via grey market - they just woul...

well i'm up to 8 plants now and haven't had any issue. i figure as you get north you perhaps get a shorter growing season, but frozen ground is frozen ground. I can't wait until I have more room to start growing even more. we've got rosemary and a few other herbs in the garden that absolutely refuse...

surprised no one in toronto's invested in a good canning line. guess the added cost and space of having one in addition to a bottling line is nuts. it takes up a ton of space too, mostly because you then also need storage for a bazillion cans. anyone who's currently labeling their bottles just need...

not sure how "winter hardy" they need to be... i've got a bunch of varieties and haven't had any issues related to that. worst weather-related issue i've had is needing to cover the buds last spring to avoid frost at night, but that's hardly variety-dependent.

it's now 5 days and ZERO airlock activity. thought i had some semblance of a krausen but nope. what do you ferment in? ie: was it a carboy where you could have seen if there was krausen and such or a bucket where you can't? could be that it's already done and you just didn't have a seal. only way t...

we're over a pallet, so i've opened it up for 750ml belgians (champagne style, corkable or cappable) and 22oz bombers too. will also drop the shipping cost a little too if we can fill the second one.

both cappable and corkable, standard caps. http://www.unitedbottles.com/en/biereci ... n-033.aspx

case of 12 is $7.28 without shipping, around $8.58 with shipping (and will go down if we end up with more than one pallet).

FYI, I'm organizing a bulk bottle buy on the SOB site, including 375ml belgian bottles and 12oz longnecks to start, expanding as interest appears. http://areyouansob.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2310

On the whole though, I'm amazed that people care this much. yeah, it's fascinating... does that extra 150ml really make all the difference? enough to make you not buy it at all? madness. only two types of containers I'll avoid: clear glass (for the obvious light-struck issues) and stupidly inflated...

no problem using maris as your base - it's what i use for anything english/american, some german. everything else (belgian, some german) is pilsner. no crystal is fine too - don't need much malty presence for a hoppy american brew, so a solid base like maris complimented by munich/aromatic is good. ...

you might consider a RB/carafa mix, lest it turn out too roasty. i always love maris as a base, and think crystal is often overused, so munich is a great idea. other than that, don't be shy on the late hops and it should be tasty.

anyone I know with a Blichmann swears by them - they work awesome and will last forever. I built my 3-burner stand and paid a good chunk more than the cost of 3 blichmann's, but i also had particular goals in mind. before that I was using a pair of propane burners. one of the jet-style "king ko...
