The dog/cat is costing you thousands... The wife thinks you should have your eyebrows trimmed... You ca...

One big difference between the industrial brewers in Germany and the industrial brewers here: diversification. The largest single brewing group in Germany owns about 11% if the national market share (contrasted to what? - 40-50% here). Diversification=competition=consumer choice=good value=mature ma...

A well balanced session stout to relieve me from the sour, big head inducing love hate relationship I have with Guinness. It really is swill. Loveable swill, mind you. Given it's popularity, you'd think that someone would take a reasonable stab at snatching a bit of their market. An original Conner'...

I agree Torontoblue with your draft assessment.

I sent the brewery an email at the end of September wondering if they had changed anything after an awful pint.

Never heard back at all.

Ah, the pressures of growth.

If there was some sort of mandatory labelling requirement, I'm sure consumers would speak with their dollars and I'm also sure that brewers who use a lot of crap in our pints would have to answer a number of questions from them. Try and think of another consumer product that you ingest to the tune o...

Okay, the question is; How does this abortion serve Barry Sherman as Chairman & Ceo of Apotex Pharma? His billions are financing it - whats this all about. Is there a forensic auditor out there that can shed some light? I wish. Many moons back, I worked on an herbal beer development project for...

I guess Frank's looking for a permanent venue for his schlock rock revue in the Victoria St. development. Could be the death of that neighbourhood. Some ego's know no bounds. Let the baby have his bottle. The rest of us still have Denison's. A veritable national treasure... Hopefully, that will neve...

Take a chill pill steelback guy. The primary reason we all participate here is to stimulate discussion and hopefully thereby, some positive, real forward movement. Take pride in that role even when others oppose your views diametrically. My views on this particular subject: LCBO - could use some com...

Re: Suggestion for the OCB

C'est What will only serve beer that meets these criteria: 1. Single batch brewing. The contents of each brew kettle are used for one brand only. 2. All natural ingredients. The ingredients used should be easily recognized as “natural” and, if processed, must retain their essential character. 3. Fr...

Snot

Although beer usually has some sulfites naturally present (different yeast strains give rise to differing amounts), finings (gelatin or isinglass) are often preserved with sulfites. When finings are hydrated (to a very snot-like consistency), these sulfites piggyback into the beer. I've seen difficu...

Suggestion for the OCB

How about developing a meaningful quality standard for consumers? Hopefully something with a little more guts than 'small batches, unpasteurized, artificial additive and preservative free.' Someone needs to really articulate what's different on a scale that means something when I walk into the LCBO ...

That said, I do find the flavour of Guinness much different than it was even a handful of years ago, as the company has pushed more and more to capture the lager-drinking youth market. No longer, to my palate, does it have the appetizing "tang" of dry, almost sour roast that once made it ...

Murphy's is indeed owned by Heineken.

Definitely the least consumed stout in Ireland. The least roast character of the three big Irish stouts.

It's a lovely pint if you ever find yourself in Cork.
