Even the Ales Of England pack they used to bring in years ago had a few things you couldn't get otherwise (Boddington's Gold, Marston's and Flowers).

Guinness "Beers Of Ireland" Pack at LCBO

Saw this the other day. What a waste of space. I believe it is two cans of Guinness, two cans of Kilkenny and four cans of Harp. All in an attractive cardboard box! With a handle!

I'm so glad we can finally get these elusive UK beers in Ontario!

Garrett Oliver on CITY TV

Garrett Oliver was on BT this morning. He was cooking dishes with the Brooklyn lager & stout as well as Blanche de Chambly. He claimed that both the lager & stout are now available at the LCBO, though I still don't see the stout in their system.

I'd love to go back even just to visit the Philharmonic pub again. Apparently they have a guided tour where women are allowed to visit the gents toilets to view the ornate marble urinals!

We might not realize Brit ales in English pubs are often not massive Imperial Stouts, but are rather these wonderful low-alcohol beers meant to be drunk in quantity, over a goodly stay of time. Germany is the same; everyday 'volks' beer is not Aventinus or Celebrator Doppelbock, but fresh, sublimel...

Tried the Abbot Ale tonight. I was really surprised by the taste - nice, sweet start with an unexpectedly hoppy finish. Doesn't taste like any of the "regular" UK ales the LCBO stocks.

Not a mindblower, but a nice change of pace all the same.

At the risk of getting flamed here I'm gonna suggest a chocolate ORANGE stout. A nice burnt, dark chocolate flavour with a hint of blood orange.

Note also that their website's (http://www.hiprestaurants.com/west50/) has a calendar of music/bands with no mention of any cover charge. -Josh They also look like cover bands to me (or "classic rock" as the website says). Who charges cover for cover bands? Seems to me that the bar owner ...

If I went to Beer Bistro and I was stopped at the door and told it was $10 to get in because there was a jazz trio playing I'd walk away.

Guinness Red

Maybe this has been discussed already as it was announced a few months back, but it's news to me: http://xo.typepad.com/blog/2006/10/guinness_red.html I'm guessing it will be similar to Kilkenny and Caffrey's. I've had the Guinness Bitter (in cans and on tap) and it's not far off from John Smith's a...

Lol - that's what I usually do too (chill the beer a bit and let it warm in the glass - the poor man's cellar I guess!).

Question about Westvleteren

I've got my hands on a couple bottles each of the 6, 8 and 12. Are these all meant to be served at cellar temperature? I'll be drinking them out of a trappist glass for sure, just concerned about the correct serving temperature.
