Pocket Beer Guide 2015 at Sat. Cask Days

Hey all. I'm probably way too late with this, but I'm bringing copies of the brand new Pocket beer Guide 2015 for a couple of people who have requested them during the afternoon session of Cask Days on Saturday. If anyone else would like one, please let me know. $20 a book. I'll check here in the mo...

Dinner in the Yurt at the Ceili Cottage - Nov 27 @ Ceili

Just a heads up that I'll be hosting a beer dinner in the Yurt at the Ceili Cottage next Wednesday, November 27, beginning at 7:00. Four courses including freshly-shucked Malpeques to start, four generous pours including the latest -- and quite different -- brew of the Cottage's own Scrimshaw Oyster...

Any initiative that favoured craft beers would be subject to a near-immediate and likely successful NAFTA challenge, so unless they've devised something that is near bullet-proof, this is a complete non-starter. The only way the private sector gets into booze retailing in Ontario is an an equal acce...

Alrighty, then, they're coming out of the woodwork, for sure. Still not enough in the general sphere to merit a column, IMO -- which of course is why I was asking in the first place -- but sufficient to be deemed a mini-trend, perhaps. FWIW, I look forward to trying the ones named here that I have y...

You only added one to the mix, Jordan -- the Beyond the Pale beers were already mentioned -- so I'm sticking with my 'not that many' assessment.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. Seems I wasn't far off in thinking that there aren't really that many around.

I was in not too long back and although the place was deadly quiet, the bartender seemed quite disinterested in me and my companion. Several beers were missing from the printed selection, and when I inquired after one of them he said it was listed instead on the chalkboard, despite the fact that sai...

Rye Beers

I was reflecting on local new releases when my eyes fell upon the Cameron's Resurrection, which made me wonder what other beers were out right now with significant rye content, aside from the RPA and the seasonal release Rugporter, of course. Any thoughts?

David Olive is usually much closer to the mark in his analyses. In this story, I believe he betrays a serious lack of familiarity with the topic at hand. There are many, many holes in his take.

GCBF

In case anyone is going out to Victoria next week for the GCBF, I'm partnering with local beer guy Joe Wiebe on a sort-of tap takeover event at Spinnakers the night prior to the fest, where I'll be launching the new Pocket Beer Guide 2014, as well. Here are the basics from the press release: As a ce...

I guess this isn't as popular an idea as I thought it might be. Perhaps worth revisiting in the winter, though. Sorry to those who did express interest.

Whisky for Beer Drinkers

Just testing the waters here, wondering if anyone would be interested in a seminar that would be cast as a sort of malt whisky 101. I know of a downtown site I can use and have a plan to keep costs down, so it would probably run 2 - 3 hours, feature at least 6 or 8 whiskies and hopefully cost less t...

What Greg wrote is correct. FAB might be a chain, but it's a small chain and very much a democratic organization. To my knowledge, all the food at the Queen's Quay -- where, yes, I did consult on the start-up -- is made in-house. I expect the same would be true of the Laird one, too. This ain't Dard...
