Re: the chicken vs. the egg, I submit the case history of British Columbia. As little as five years ago, the BC beer market was even more conservative than was Ontario, with brewers rarely venturing beyond British beer styles and many pale ales styled after the successful-but-not-very-pale-ale-ish ...

But the LCBO because it's a monopoly, has no competition so they can continue to charge whatever the hell they want. I think LCBO has some competition in the way of bars and restaurants. I mean yes it is more expensive to drink at a bar but it is another way to drink. Um, where do bars and restaura...

Oh yeah - and we'll just SEE how many retailers simply 'hold the line' with their existing pricing. If the Euro replacing the Deutschmark in Germany was any indication, retailers are just as happy to place the same number on the price tag - even if this means charging double. I can't get over how l...

I got a couple of bottles of it as part of a DDC mixed pack a few weeks ago when I went to Gatineau. I wasn't really impressed. To me it tasted too much like fizzy alcoholic grapefruit juice.

thx for the link to this thread, its a very insightful look into the brewing philosophy in ontario, both today and in 2007. so breweries in the province today are still very afraid to take the next step and produce beer that is current. I think saying that simply brewers are afraid to take the next...

Wow that really makes me think of Red Tick Beer from the Simpsons (the beer that needs more dog).

This may sound like a naive question but why can't the LCBO, with all its vast resources, try to get the best rated beers every season? Or do they just believe taste is entirely relative and they can please us with these (mostly) half ass brews? The seasonal releases are put together from beers tha...

Re: UK Pubs

Currently in the UK for the first time and enjoying the amount of pubs everywhere (kind of like Tim Horton's in Hamilton, one on every corner). I'll admit it's not easy finding a Double IPA or Belgian Triple, and I'm not really expecting that, but the fact that every single pub so far as had at lea...

I am glad to see the number of mixed packs increasing. One of the things I like about buying beer anytime I get down to Ogdensburg or Watertown NY is that pretty much every small to medium sized brewery has a mixed or variety pack. It is a nice way to get a bunch of different stuff without taking th...

Has anyone ever had any problems flying with corked beer bottles? I was in NYC a few weeks ago and I was really temped to bring back a couple of big corked bottles of beer with me (I really wanted to bring back the Brooklyn-Schneider Weiss), but I wasn't sure how a corked and caged bottle would han...

My opinion is you can't go half assed in the craft world, you need to be balls out or sell buck a beers. If you're in the middle, who's your market? Dann Paquette is a smart guy and has it right, I think we're all past the point of needing to appeal to some middle ground/gateway market of beer drin...

Just imagine if the Dome brought in all craft beer, interesting local foods, etc....people might actually want to go to games! Perhaps with the Jays in all-time low attendance the management of the Rogers Centre might consider doing things a bit differently? Maybe that's too much to ask :-? I went ...
