Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Sell beer, or sell *their own beer*? If the former - big win. I would bet 100:1 against it being the former. It's the latter - see final recommendation 7 on page 48 of the report: " The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) should allow brewers with two production facilities to have ...

That said - how come Quebec gets away with allowing convenience stores to carry Quebec products? Did that pre-date NAFTA? Quebec is grandfathered in relation to wine in "grocery stores" by the Canada-US FTA (the provision right after private wine stores in Ontario and BC) - paragraph 3 of...

The LCBO website would seem to suggest it's theoretically quite pricey when you add up the duty ($0.3122/litre), border levy ($0.676/litre) and HST (13%). See the first table ("Accompanied Importations") here: http://www.lcbo.com/contactus/importing.shtml Or is this some creative math to m...

Is it legal to purchase alcohol online and have it shipped to Ontario. Not if you're the LCBO. Otherwise, yes. The (federal) Importation of Intoxicating Liquors Act says, Notwithstanding any other Act or law, no person shall import, send, take or transport, or cause to be imported, sent, taken or t...

The Port Gastro Pub sounds good... anyone been? http://www.theportpub.com/ I'd definitely agree that it's a must visit if you're in the Annapolis Valley, but is not enough of a destination from a purely beer perspective to make the drive from say Halifax when you could go to the Hart & Thistle....

I'm not expert in this area but I think the issues have everything to do with liquor laws and nothing to do with a lack of innovative thinking. Under the Liquor Control Act , who has the power to authorize the establishment of stores? Why the Liquor Control Board of Ontario: The purposes of the Boar...

I'm just on my last day of a family trip out in Nova Scotia and was struck especially when reading this post by how much I'm going to miss the beer availability out here. To me the NSLC is basically the LCBO on a smaller level (although having a good selection of Propeller and Garrison beers goes a ...

Have you tried the Galt Knife Old Style Lager? I have and I enjoy it like every Grand River beer I've ever had. But I'd tried it on some of my macro-oriented friends and hadn't gotten the same positive responses I got with the Town Hall. I was curious since I wouldn't have pegged it to get retired....

Got up last weekend and picked up some of the Plowman's Anniversary Ale. Delicious! One question I didn't have a chance to ask at the brewery but someone here will undoubtedly know - what happened to the Town Hall Lager? I always thought it was the perfect beer to keep on hand for those friends who ...

I haven't noticed Creemore anywhere in the ACC. There's a Creemore stand (serving only Creemore) about 50 metres west of Lord Stanley's Mug right by the Tim Horton's stand (sort of the southwest corner of the main concourse I think). In my experience that stand is often closed. The best bet for Cre...

Being a sports fan and a beer fan I remember being pretty excited when I heard that the ACC was going to have an on-site brewery. It was always Molson affiliated but the 1st year they brewed Toronto's Own there. I recollect that it wasn't anything out of this world, but it was a huge upgrade over th...

The dining room is called 'In Camera' and I think it's theoretically open to the public (though only for weekday lunch), but you might want to contact them.

Probably too late but, it was on tap at Volo last night. As good as I remembered it. I'm dying to hear if it's available in bottles yet.
