Half Hours on Earth bottles

Hey all, Drove out to what is certainly Ontario's smallest brewery, Kyle Teichart's new Half Hours on Earth, as part of a larger southern Ontario beer road trip. I was a little 'over ambitious' and came back with a shit ton of beer that's not all going to get drunk in the near future. So, since I en...

Re: Barncat Artisan Ales (a BT member!!) opening in Cambridge

Arranged it with Jeremy to pop by tonight. Got to try their 4 beers that are on right now (all delicious!) and walk out with a couple growlers - thanks Jeremy!

Re: Bar Hop 2 (Peter St)

Stopped in and I think I could echo the unevenness of the food. Had a number of the sharing plates and nothing really stood out despite the unique concepts. Had the white fish which was deliciously done but the sauce and accompanying potatoes were subpar. Dessert was a little hit and miss too, but ...

Re: AFT Kitchen and Bar at Broadview

Checked this out last week for lunch. Small tap list, mostly standard offerings but at least it's craft, Boneshaker and the Wellington wheat beer mentioned above were the most adventuresome choices. Had a terrific brisket sandwich on special, a take on a Big Mac but with brisket… genius idea. Nice l...

Re: What HOMEBREW are you drinking right now?

My strawberry rhubarb pale ale. A non-homebrewing friend was interested in brewing it, so I put the recipe together and we did it together, and while I wouldn't have chosen to pair the style with those fruits (and it still wouldn't be my first choice, maybe a nice Berliner) it turned out pretty good...

Re: Washington DC / Northern Virginia suburbs

Back from 5 days in DC, didn't get the chance to hit a ton of places but the few I did: Matchbox Chinatown is a nice pizza joint, laid back exposed brick kind of place. Decent smallish tap list, good food. Black Squirrel, just hit the downstairs bar, dive-ish basement feel. Solid tap list, a couple ...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Lots of good beer after 4 days in Washington DC, but the standouts have been the Lagunitas Mango Habanero IPA, Boulevard Hibiscus Gose & Perennial Hopfentea Berliner. As well as many good pints of the always delicious Bell's Two Hearted. A good beer city...

Re: What're you brewing right now?

Kicked off brewing for the year with a simple all Simcoe IPA. Missed a few targets, have to dial things in again, but nice to get out on a beautiful evening and brew!

I don't input reviews much anymore, but some local standouts in my mind were Amsterdam Testify, Northwinds Route 26, Great Lakes Lake Effect, a couple of the Left Field Prospects series, and Bellwoods Bring out Your Dead. But, far away, the best beer I cracked in 2014 was the Great Divide Barrel Age...

I did a few days in Saskatoon for a conference a couple of years ago - I doubt much has changed. Winston's is by far your best bet, but also try to make it out to Paddock Wood to chat & pick up some bottles. Friendly people there.

Took advantage of the warmer weather today and wrapping up a robust porter, decided to go Citra on the hop profile (what I had) though. Also going to split off half of it to let it sit on some rum aged oak. Not sure if it will all meld together but good to get out & brew!

Went in this evening around 5:30pm, place was pretty dead - and with a place this large, you notice the absence of people… Bar staff hovered, clearly a little too interested and not enough business to keep them busy (had three different bartenders, in the course of 5 minutes wander by and comment ho...
