Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

Have to admit I've pretty much given up on Nickel Brook. Too bad as I enjoyed them back in the day. Something seems off now, though.

Re: Mad Mash Brewery, Tavistock ON

I don't like to be overly negative in anonymous online forums. I'll just say the beers I tried did not appeal to me.

Re: What's Your Favourite Ontario West Coast IPA?

Three Sheets Brewing New Wave IPA. Don't believe that one has been mentioned. I really like it. They're in Port Elgin though so perhaps not super accessible.

Really? Every time I go to a craft brewery, I feel like I'm the oldest guy in the room, by far. Lots of young people, many with families. Maybe I only go to the good craft breweries. :)

Re: Best Ontario pilsners

Agree the Godspeed offering(s) are fantastic and a real treat, but not so easy to get. A close second is True History. They are making really good stuff too.

Re: Shrinkflation

I certainly had some fantastic tasting pints when I was there, and some were less than stellar. But I chalked it up to how fresh the keg was, how clean the lines where, how clean the glass was... as a matter of fact one of my Guinness was sent back from our party on night because he was upset with ...

Re: Shrinkflation

When in Ireland this past summer the people that we were with almost went out of their way to complain about the quality of the pour of their beer, especially Guinness Yeah, the Irish are almost comically obsessed, I have found, with "pouring a nice pint". As if it makes a difference to t...

Re: Shrinkflation

Now that I'm thinking about it, the Shrinkflation trend (a few years old now) in the pub that really bugs me is the adoption of glasses shaped exactly like Nonic pints, but that are clearly smaller than 20 oz -- probably 16 or even 14 ounces. If you're going to serve a non-pint, please be transparen...

Re: Goose Island Black Friday & Bourbon County Stout

In fact going further I often most enjoy plain ol' imperial stouts even sans barrel-aging. OG Tempest is one of my favourite Ontario beers. Wellington Imperial Stout is still going strong it seems. Really liked it back in the day. Is it still as good as ever? Going back even further, I used to look...

Re: Shrinkflation

I can't bring myself to be a dick about it at the bar. I'll just talk about them behind their back on forums :) In all seriousness though, I have been noticing it more and more there which is unfortunate. I've found an older school British pub not far away that still does 18/20oz glasses and the be...

Agree! So do act like a bit of a dick and ask for a top-up, or quietly pay too much for too little?

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

Wow. Lots of news here. That patio at Signal is really great in the summer. Recommended as a day trip or for post-round drinks if anyone is a golfer (super close to Black Bear Ridge). Hope the new owners keep it open. Really sorry to lose that fun, intentionally unadorned little space at Muddy York....

Re: Goose Island Black Friday & Bourbon County Stout

I'm not a bourbon barrel stout connoisseur, so this is more a question than an assertion, but isn't Double Tempest the obvious answer?

Re: Shrinkflation

Yeah, as noted the 500 ml vs. 473 ml can thing is a handy way to determine if an "import" is actually imported. If it's in a 473 ml. can, it was brewed in Canada; 500's are from Europe. Not completely sure about USA (they don't list ml's on the can if brewed for the domestic US market?)
