Has anyone else noticed how similar this is to Hops and Robbers? I realize they are made at the same place, but still. Try them side by side - almost indistinguishable.

That release is (with all due respect to the five beers included, which are undoubtedly fine products) pitiful! Just five beers? Nothing from the entirety of Great Britain? USA? Germany? Recent releases left me feeling some grudging admiration for the bureaucratic monopoly, but they've dropped the b...

Yes, I too find the Old Bruin more accessible and enjoyable (to an unreformed Best Bitter-lover's palate) than the Roddy. Lovely balance of flavours.

That is too bad. I may be in the minority here, but I liked the place. Wrong location though, to be sure. I would go occasionally if I could talk my family into taking in a movie at the multiplex next door. Otherwise, there was absolutely no reason to make the lengthy trek! I wonder what ever happen...

I was there (Davisville LCBO) Saturday afternoon, having not read Perry's latest post. A pleasant young employee claimed he knew "a lot" about the beer section. I asked him if I could have a six of the Sgt. Major. He went in the back and located it, but came out and told me it was "ma...

So who's been hyping everyone up? Where are the references? I'm just being lazy, as I'm sure ratebeer and Beer Advocate are two sources. Michael Jackson himself says: "Rodenbach Grand Cru would feature in any connoisseur's list of the world's top ten beers. Like many highly distinctive product...

I was at the Bow for a couple of pints of the wonderful Nutcracker straight from the cask. It was terrific and more resinous, but also richer, than the bottled version, IMHO. Very very good - thanks to Ken for putting this on.

Bellvue Kriek

In today's National Post, page TO9, there is a review of a new bar/club in Parkdale, in which the beers on tap are listed as, I kid you not, Hoegaarden, Guinness and "Belleview Creek". You gotta love the quality of the beer journalism in this city!

There was lots of Rogue Chocolate and some Spitfire (but nothing else that I could see) at Yonge and Davisville today, and all of the English and Scottish beers in the release (except for Belhaven Wee Heavy) were in supply at Maple and Fairview in Burlington.

Can we get back to the relative merits of Steam Whistle's product? I'm often puzzled by the low regard that many Bar Towellers hold for Steam Whistle. Sure, it's not Pilsner Urquell or even King Pilsner, but it's miles better than Molson anything and can be a welcome port in a storm in many many sou...

Forgive the ignorance, but can someone give me a brief backgrounder on Achel? Acccording to my Michael Jackson Belgian beers book (published, admittedly, in 1989) there are only six true Trappists: Chimay Orval Rochefort Westmalle Westvletern (St. Sixtus) Schaapskooi (Koningshoeven) Where does Achel...

This was an excellent cask beer several years ago at the Bow & Arrow, hoppy yet balanced, definitely more-ish, and I'm hopeful the current version will be similar. Rob: are you drinking cask or keg versions (or both) in the Guelph area? Also, any chance the bottled version will ever show up in a...
