Re: What're you drinking right now?

Some oddballs lately: Burdock Leo (2018) - Mixed fermentation saison aged on cabernet franc skins, wild blueberries & blended with Riesling at bottling (3%). https://res.cloudinary.com/ratebeer/image/upload/e_trim:1/d_beer_img_default.png,f_auto/beer_768709 Stone City Ales Communal 13 - Collabor...

Re: General LCBO Debate & Discussion Thread

Feb 6th Life In The Clouds cans are tasting as good as ever. Maybe a tweaked recipe as the description is now "Double Dry Hopped IPA." Tastes a little less sweet and little more hoppy. Visually opaque and pure haze. So many of these VE-style hop-dusty cloudy IPAs/Pales with tropical overn...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Fat Tug in cans and it's drinking very nicely right now! Thanks for the heads up. I went and grabbed a half case and it is indeed drinking great. Glad to see fresh(ish) cans here, as Fat Tug is one of the best WC IPAs made in Canada. Like most beers in the style, I prefer drinking this only slightl...

Re: Munich, Bamberg, Brugge, and Brussels.

What a nice trip idea! Great notes. Bamberg is easily accessible by Deutsche Bahn (train) if you want to day-trip to and from München, and enjoy lots of beechwood smoked beer. You might even go back a second day, or else consider other towns for day-trips that are also frequent and easy rail connect...

Barnaresco from Produttori 2014

PRODUTTORI DEL BARBARESCO BARBARESCO 2009 VINTAGES 708826 | 750 mL bottle Price $ 41.95 Saw this disappearing fast so grabbed one on impulse. My first Barbaresco I can recall buying, which is of the same grape (Nebbiolo) and similar region to Barolo (with wines that are less weighty in exchange for...

Southern Rhone re-Appreciation

Domaine Saint-Andéol L'Excellence Cairanne Côtes du Rhône Villages 2013 Reduced 20% at my local 'Bo (yes!) this is a very well put-together Grenache/Syrah showing great overall smoothness already and would likely benefit from a few years more to tame the Syrah. Dense berry-cherry fruit, a bit of va...

Re: Versado Argentinian Malbec 2014

Versado Malbec 2014 Mendoza, Argentina Super nice modern Malbec, very well put together. Defined cherry and dark berry fruit, very powerful yet sleek and well-integrated tannins and great, appropriate acidity. Some beet and herbals. The Versado Reserva Ancient Malbec 2014 is going for $59.95 and th...

Ch. Loumelat Cuvée J.J. Lesgourgues 2015 Bordeaux

Château Loumelat Cuvée J.J. Lesgourgues 2015 Nice stuff! Here is classic bordeaux style in a medium body, round like a Merlot-dominated Right bank and yet wooly from some Cabernet signature adding cassis jam. Loads of berry (notably blackberry) and a bit of spicy toasty oak. Extremely good stuff to...

Chateau Fortia 2012 Baron Ch.neuf-du-Pape

Château Fortia Cuvée Du Baron Châteauneuf Du Pape 2012 Bought a few years ago, began its maturation cycle last year but still early & if I had a second bottle I'd wait six years. Quality cork is stained black at tip, and wine opens slightly heavy-rich berry and wild herbs and black plum, slight...

godspeed

I twice enjoyed the new Hefeweizen at Godspeed, vivid color and great flavour.

Aroma could be slightly more to it perhaps, yet still a great early batch & the KaiZen is strong in this brewery. The Kölsch seems really dialled in and I like the full aromas.

Peyros 2015 VV Madiran Tannat-Cabernet

Château Peyros Vieilles Vignes Madiran 2015 Tannat/Cabernet Franc Here is another Peyros Madiran this time made with Old Vines grapes. Again, nice rounded and dry Bordeaux-like structure, yet including slightly wooly blackcurrant-blackberry / cedar and slightly buttery oak. Carries into some oaky s...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I was wondering if anyone has had infection issues with beers other than the 2018 BOYD? I sent a Black Roses to someone recently as a desired extra in a trade and he let me know it had gone quite sour. Has anyone had issues with 2017 BOYD, 2017 or 18 Skeleton Keys or recent 3 Minutes to Midnight? C...
