Tawse Quarry 2013 Chard VQA

Tawse Quarry Road Chardonnay 2013 Vinemount Ridge Here is an impressive barrel-fermented Ontario white behaving a bit like a northern Burgundy wine. The (American oak?) barrel is immediately evident with light coconut, toast and vanilla but not in a brash way, and there's some woody presence. The s...

Doppeling right now?

Höss Doppel-Hirsch Doppelbock Haandbukk Doppelbock Each quite different & great in its own way. Both quite dark-malty ('rich' is a good word for it) and each uses its own tricks in an attempt to balance out all that bready maltose. My favorites likely remain Weltenburger Asam-Bock and Andechser ...

What're you God or something right now?

* NEW * Godspeed Irori Peated Scotch Lager (yes, like a Scotch Ale only its not.) Smoky and sticky. Godspeed Oberkassel Altbier - even better than last year's, with fruity depth and black tea notes venturing into classic British Ale territory. * NEW * Godspeed Gokuresama Kölsch Style Ale - absolutel...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Cascade Brewing Manhattan NW. A little pricy at over $21 per 750ml bottle but worth the experience. A quad/ blond blend aged in bourbon barrels with cherry and apricot. Exceptionally sour. Yeah, those are discounted prices for the Apricot and Manhattan, so enjoy that!! A lot of us paid 6-7 bucks mo...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Yes, I notice that Luc (ex of Dieu du Ciel!! & now the master brewer at Godspeed) leans firmly away from excessive richness in his brews, I speculate because of how overdone the sweet Belgian strong / blonde / golden / Saison and even Stout seem to be in Québéc. I mean, it's really really easy t...

Time of the Saison

Godspeed HANABI Smoked Saison Brasserie Dupont Saison Both pretty amazing. I like the crisp dryness of the GS, and if course the BD has more roundness and fruit, especially since the bottle is young. If Dupont says BBD in 2020, that is the time when the beer is just getting interesting. Bottle condi...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Evil Twin Chili Hazelnut Biscotti Break Oddly interesting coffee stout, I think I'd really prefer a Péché Mortél or a Founders (Racist!!!) CBS. Honestly has a bit of a metallic quality at first (can has been in fridge for a while) and maybe that's the chilies - these are evident, with some roasty pe...

Godspeed IBUSHI Smoked Pilsner

Godspeed YUZU Saison flavoured with exotic citrus.
Didn't know the YUZU was so fanstastic, it's dry and tart with interesting flavors going on. Japanese citrus fruits flavour it.

Eggenberg Samichlaus

Bottle of Samichlaus, it kind of scratches the itch for something like a Barley Wine. Amazing stuff. Eggenberg now does away with the paper capsule they used to put over the caps, which I guess makes your beer easier to get to. Aroma: kind of smells like a horse slept on a sack of barley, but kind o...

Re: Stone City Ales in Kingston

I did the three year juggernaut last Christmas. The 2015 was still the best vintage, the 2016 is significantly more boozy, and 2017 was good, but more bitter and less booze. Looking forward to the 2018, but with losing their head brewer, I wonder what 2019 holds for SCA..? SCA had the 2017 and 2018...

Limestone Bench 2016 Spark Riesling

Tawse Spark Limestone Ridge Sparkling Riesling Here is a sparkling Riesling with good acidity and freshness, tart fruit and apple and some mineral. The acid structure is mouth-watering and Riesling is one of the superstar grapes of Ontario, the Rhineland and Alsace - it likes a cooler climate. Made...

Villamont 2015 Burgundy

Henri de Villamont Bourgogne Chardonnay 2014

A nice little white Burgundy with decent Chardonnay character and some spicy-oaky barrel toast. Not hugely complex but solidly put together.

Re: Collective Arts

... Sadly I live in the Beaches, so not there that often. I do get the glory that is the Coxwell and Queen LCBO though. One of the best in the city for beer. Sadly a lot of you are my neighbors suffering though our miserable lives near the Beach (just kidding, it's a great area.) And that store is ...

In my experience an Ontario brewed Barley Wine is a relatively rare event, so imagine my surprise when my wife returns from the very small town of Alexandria, Ontario with a few Where The Buffalo Roam from Cameron’s. A favorite style of mine well represented here. One for now, a few to sit. The new...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Omnipollo Prodromus while playing Pandemic with the family. Good on the LCBO for geting back a number of suitable Holiday beers we've had before, including the Samichlaus and others. Had a Whitewater Peanut Butter Shake Stout , it has a great aroma and decent look and taste. It's a complicated beer...
