Re: Pilsner Urquell canned two days ago?

I am curious about something. This is a lager. Lagers are lagered . How does a beer that is lagered square with one that is 'fresh'? When does that 'fresh" date start? At packaging? Also, how much can really go wrong in a can? Assuming stable product going in and not outrageously long shelf ti...

Who needs Pinot Noir to make a stew

Abbaye de Rocs is listed now. At $6.15 for a 750ml... At that price I will pick some more up, but 330 mL is a better serving size. I've enjoyed it many times at Only Café back when things were cheap there and I much agree. Although I can't complain too much. Large bottles of bottle-conditioned BSAs...

Modern Times Pale and Gose

jp_jkl wrote:I like Modern Times... these three offerings are good but not great. Considering the price and canning date, I'd have a hard time buying them again....

Me too. Regardless of canning date, we have local brews that are off-the-charts better, and Founders stuff that is better and a very fair deal.

2004 Warre's Quinta da Cavadinha

[Speaking of long-lived Ports, in my weakness to try new things I got a Warre's Quinta da Cavadinha Vintage Port 2004 today (the last one on the shelf, always a good sign.) Vintage Ports, the rarest kind have the best potential for ageing and complexity so they are, paradoxically removed from barre...

Re: Beer Advocate Beer Styles...

Kvass is also sold at Starsky's in Mississauga. Many cute East European women there. I believe the chain is Polish. Head around the block to Brandt store for some German cuisine for lunch, I guarantee it's a good meal for cheap and the store is impressive too. Plus both stores offer Alcohol-free bee...

Re: Signal Brewing Co., Belleville

A heritage industrial building on the river. ^ this alone makes me want to check it out. Beer, it's always a learning curve. They will get better. How's the food, worth a nosh or a meal? Appears to be a good open space to have a band stage, if they can get the very hard, echoic acoustics under cont...

Ventoux S.Rhone Red

Château Juvénal La Terre du Petit Homme 2014 Ventoux, Rhone Blending equal parts (1:1) Grenache/Syrah, the dominant calling card grapes of Rhone wines (the N Rhone favors Syrah, the South leans toward Grenache.) A Ventoux Red is Southeastern Rhone from one of the many communes there - Ventoux &...

And I was able to withstand Prodromus - twice! Although maybe I was suffering from Stockholm Syndrome? (Swedish beer... ahh never mind.)

Sam's Weird Chocolate Stout

What happened to Sam Smith’s Organic Chocolate Stout? The bottle I tried went right back to the store. Maybe the cocoa was off in this batch but this seemed vastly sub-par for a $5 beer from a renowned brewery. I'd love to know what you other beer maniacs thought of it! The regular Oatmeal Stout wa...

Nebbiolo Barbaresco from the Piedmont

Marchesi di Barolo Barbaresco 2013 Nebbiolo 'Beautiful purity' is a good description of this moderately dry Barbaresco (not Barolo) red - the balance of sun-ripe berry fruit and gentle-yet-serious structure is showing off the Neb grape really well. Has all these nice little underplays of earthy spi...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I'm going to buy more of the Collective Arts #5 DIPA from the Danforth store, that batch is so great. Now loving: Godspeed Imperial Pale Lager (with Australian Hops) - like a German-esque Noble Hop bomb. Bitter. Godspeed Ochame Green Tea IPA - I can tell there is excellent tea in this, it adds beaut...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Mon Feb 05, 2018 Collective Arts #5 IPA (double IPA) - great stuff for the trending NE IPA style St-Feuillien Cuvée de Noël - huge head in pour, amazing wonderful beer, presents rooty kola spice and dryness, both tangy fruit and sweet dried dark fruit. A (easy-going) reference point for Belgian Str...

Re: Collective Arts

I just tried the CA #5 IPA (double IPA) which I think has an excellent big tropical fruit aroma. Expansive hop character. The foggy 'New England' glass presentation and citrusy hop flavors are great, also gentle spicy-resiny aspects like spruce forest. The particular malting and substantial ABV give...

Godspeed Mondainai Double IPA

the new dipa is absolutely delicious. a terrific little mosaic bomb. I just opened one. Great! It recalls (in a different & bigger way) the enjoyably grapefruit rind / fir tree resin and aromatic qualities of the circa-2006 (pre-Heritage) Scotch Irish Sgt Majors, although that one had more Chin...
