Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

The Spencer pack is pretty good value. One Trappist Ale, Imperial Stout and Holiday Ale and a nice glass for about $16 IIRC. I believe Spencer are a Trappist monastery that brews beer? But yeah, I get that you are referring to trappist-style ales maybe similar to Chimay, St Bernardus, etc. Spencer ...

Gaudou Tradition 2016 Cahors

Château de Gaudou Tradition Cahors 2016 This Malbec/Merlot red from Cahors in the SW of France returns to the LCBO. This Gaudou opens well with cherry and hints cedar, a little (right bank) Bordeaux-like wooliness. It has a richness in the fruit, while the tannins are very approachable. Also black ...

Re: Spain! Navarra!

Opened a bottle ( Magaña Dignus 2012 Tempranillo Blend ) a couple of months ago and loved it so much I managed to convince the local LCBO to ship me 6 bottles from another store. Having the first of those 6 now and indeed it’s just as good as I remember. There’s not much more in the system; pick it...

Right-Bank Red

Château Clos du Loup Cuvée Prestige 2010 A really interesting Bordeaux Red with a lot of development for its 8 years of age and lots of dryness. It has a reduced sweetness, but the fruit character still shows as tart cassis and hints of cranberry and dried blueberry (I also happen to like unsweeten...

Flavium Mencía Spain Red

Flavium Selección Mencía 2014 A nice Mencia-grape red from Bierzo, Spain that features nice violet-like florals over the tart, deep black berry fruit. The oak barrel is integrated and lends a sandalwood / spice element. Has a good medium body, easy to enjoy and has that cool modern Spanish thing go...

Salvator

GtownRandy wrote: Paulaner Salvator Doppelbock is back. What a great value, $2.95 for a 500ml can of 7.9abv goodness. Paulaner jumped from $2.95 to $4.00 within a few weeks of being here. Yeah... THAT was a mistake! It's worth $4.00 for 500ml. The LC now charge over $3.00 for basic Munich la...

Buissonnier Pinot Noir Burgundy 2015

Vignerons de Buxy Buissonnier Pinot Noir 2015 A nice medium-palate Burgundy red with plenty of character. I note the cedar and pleasantly dry tannic-acidic & light mineral profile supporting the tart and sweet dark berry fruit (red cherry, cassis and blackberry.) Good replays of black/red cherr...

Re: Stone City Ales in Kingston

Some time ago I caught word that SCA will release a 3-vintage vertical of Juggernaut around Xmas time.

They now have some fine new beers like the Alive and Well IPA, and the To Helles With It I'm enjoying right now (superb).

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Pricey, for sure, but when I'm able to quaff a top-rated Hill Farmstead beer on tap, you won't hear me complaining. No those are 'beer tourism' prices you just have to budget for. Especially that kind of stuff! I was at Stone City Ales yesterday - a 16oz 'not-a-pint' glass of house-made Pale ...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

My mother's side of the family is from the Grand Rapids area. Based on my 32 years of experience with and interaction amongst the people who live there, the idea of casual racism being tolerated in the workplace is not even remotely difficult to take at face value. Michigan is basically Arkansas wi...

Re: Collective Arts

Collective Arts Project Sour Harvest Saison is in LCBOs. One sip and I said 'Ahh, this is for any of us who were missing a little Pumpkin Spice and saison eathiness in their CA Jam.' Actually it may be a hint less sour than Jam up the Mash, to bring in the balance and focus of the spice and pumpkin...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

Wow! Regarding the Founders issue...If you drilled down deep enough, IMO you wouldn’t buy much based on the moral judgment idea. That's kind of a terrible argument. ... doesn't disqualify a consumer from deciding that someone/some company is a big enough jerk that they don't deserve their business....

And you don't even have to debate your reasons, I respect that.

But if you cared to explain, what would those be?

Beyond The Pale - Yummy! 473ml $4.00

Left Field - Prospect Single Hop IPA 355 mL $3.75

Both are tremendous. The 25 cents more is a good deal though.

Founders

I'd wait for a legal resolution before making any assumptions that Founders Brewing is unprincipled in human concerns. For one thing the company clearly hire people of diverse backgrounds, or this firing could never have happened. Maybe they are indeed planning to replace discriminatory employees wh...
