wow

Was in toronto hung out on Monday. Staff were super friendly, very welcoming. Started with witch shark followed by Baltic porter...enjoyed two beers with the same malts (oats and wheat too...) but were aggressively hopped, one with summit...the other with something else...duck hearts appeared...visi...

My ramble was more around when talking to the bartender they often ask "would you like a taste?" and slide a small mouthful my way. When walking past the pub with no time to stop in...salivating over the beer list as I walked by...I ironically came to resent all of those free tastes that I...

Beer Samples - no thanks!

My local has 23 craft beers on tap and it is tough to choose. I often ask about certain draughts and I'm usually offered a taste. I've been thinking - maybe this just isn't right. Beer isn't meant to be tasted and crossed off a list. I was thinking of the cask IPA from Monkies I had a couple of week...

Apres ski - Amsterdam Tempest Imperial Stout...great choice after tackling the 200+ foot vertical of Boler Mountain here in London Ont. Perfectly balanced, nun too boozy at 9%...rich'n toasty, bitter...freakin' yummy. Getting better as it warms to room temp. I am also really impressed with their Bon...

iron duke

Not sure shy but I grabbed a box of welly iron duke for the first time in a long time. Re-visited...a very friendly, quaffable autumn sipper...yet at 6.5 I can't really feel my legs anymore. Had a Saison at Milos' last week, a co-production from three crafters. It was like a session-able monk beer, ...

Mad Tom on Ice

So...I'm sittin' around watching TV...enjoying some ice floating around a glass of whisky. When done, I decide to open a bottle of Mad Tom. I sit back down then remember I need a glass as I don't generally like drinking good beer right from the bottle. I spy my empty rocks glass and, being the lazy ...

Last night I started with GLB Devils Pale, followed by ML Mad Tom, followed by FM Netherworld. Having quenched my hop thirst...switched to my new discount standby, Cool Blonde Lager. Puttered around the house for a bit, and sat down with my last Cool of the evening and was enjoying it sooooo much, w...

Garrison gone...OV oh yeah!

shocking development...my 'found' bottle of garrison imperial ipa is gone. Was taking back some empties and was looking for a discount beer last week - had a lot of empty wine bottles...walked out with a two-four for only $21.50. "Just say OV for a great tasting beer...OV oh yeah". For a v...

transit, population size and density barrier

I've visited many cities, and when travelling I am more often than not full of beer. Even if I had a car I therefore would not be driving. Finding convenient places to pee in strange cities is a great way to engage the local citizenry - the Amsterdam pissoles are awesome. We were talking last night ...

London Ont - great culture

A bunch of folks met up at a pub last night for a bit of a crawl - 20 people - some knew each other and some were just new. I was sent a private message invite through bartowel - and just showed up. It was an awesome time - really friendly people, no attitude whatsoever - from the members of the gro...

Things to do in Bracebridge

I had the opportunity to tour the Muskoka Lakes Brewery in Bracebridge a couple of weeks ago...every square inch of the space is dedicated to brewing, aging and packaging beer - save for the tasting bar. The folks running the shop and giving tours were very friendly and accomodating - their new bran...
