I did a rye IPA last year and split the batch for dry hopping. Half got centennial, which was a weird, overpowering mix, but I thought the half that got cascade was great. Maybe brew a dry IPA and mix the two? I brewed a Brooklyn-inspired lager today. I plan to throw the original Spring Bock recipe ...

Yeah, I was reading through this old thread and thought of your new endeavour. IMHO, dry hopping with mosaic gives you more gooseberry than citra does, and you don't get any cat pee or lemon zing along with it. Certainly some other flavours, but used dry it definitely puts me in mind of Chardonnay.

Finalizing my Rye Saison recipe right now. I've got WLP 565 pitched into a starter for Saturday's brew day (1.5L). Here is the long recipe and reasonings , but here is the short form. It's basically another attempt to get my favorite yeast working with hops and starting to approximate my favorite w...

No kidding? The last bottle I had was last year, but it was still great. That would have been one of the newer batches that we are referring to. Did you have any of the early batches? I think the first 3 batches were all top notch and then it went downhill from there (When they lost their head brew...

BC Beer Awards

365 brews entered this year (by my quick additions):
http://bcbeerawards.com/the-winners-2/

That's probably close to the early CBAs!

Quite a few of the top brews were from relatively new Brewers too! A lot of them are local, low production too. I like where this brewing scene is going...

Went to the Tree Institute last night for their weekly cask. It was the pale ale aged on oak, with red wine. Well-carbed and silky smooth, but I opted for a brauler of the hop head. Unfiltered hop head has the drinkability of the Sierra nevada pale ale, with the flavour of an ipa. It seems drier tha...

I've heard the refrigerated transport issue is what kept SN from dealing with the LCBO in the past. Would be interesting to know if they resolved that. They must have relaxed those expectations. We've got the pale and torpedo all over BC and it definitely isn't all refrigerated. I really like the p...

I went to the first one, and it was great. At the time I was an SOB, but as I was a stove-top brewer, I didn't brew. There's so many ways that you can do things, so it'd be great to help newbies choose a path. They did actually have people brewing stove-top, using the brew in a bag technique, and ev...

Homebrewed belgian dark that came in at 9.2%. I like it, but I think I'll brew it again with D90 sugar rather than D180. That Weyermann special W is really nice though. Followed by a Rochefort 8, also 9.2%. Even with Lots of age, this is riddled with tertiary alcohols. I prefer their 6. Followed by ...

Wow, that photo after the sand blasting looks amazing!

I imagine it's an incredible amount of work, but it looks like it'll really pay off. Congrats on realizing your dream.

Ten Fidy. At $18.99 a 4 pack it isn't outrageously expensive, but I really ought to brew an imperial stout. It is soooooo good though! I paid $15.99 for a 4 pack in Buffalo the other day and I thought that was expensive. It's not like this is barrel aged. Narwahl was $9.99 and was really good too. ...

I like the shape of a lot of Belgian glasses, but they're often so thin and fragile. That's one reason I loved this one: http://www.thirstforgreat.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/250x300/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/j/a/jacobsen-brown-ale-glass.jpg Though it was no match for the ti...

I've used the Schumacher, but generally keep it with my prized German steins.

Man, I haven't had a good alt in a long time.

Some of my favourite glasses have come from gift packs from the LCBO. Samuel Smith has stood the test of time... With Graphics still intact. It's a lot like the early cask days glasses, though you can barely read mine anymore. Those are my standard beer glasses. I really liked the Jacobsen dark lage...
