Just showed up, there's stock online, but they also email blasted it so it might go fast.

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

Oh wow, that looks so strange to me. I like cans, it's just odd seeing one of those Belgians in one.

Re: Who are the best choices for cider?

That's very true about Revel/West Ave being the ones who experiment. If you're looking for a basic cider, the options open widely. I've always had a soft spot for Waupoos, but it was the best of not many options back in the day and I haven't had one in ages. I should try one again sometime. They hav...

Re: Who are the best choices for cider?

As far as I know, Revel and West Avenue are the best of the cideries out there, but I'm not as familiar with them as I am the breweries.

I tip my hat to you gents

The next time you're going to have a black currant or whatever jelly King, have a regular one with it and compare. I think you'll see what I mean.

Re: Modern trends

Jelly King in particular is a great beer, but I've never had one where I thought the fruit addition improved it. Every variant I've tried has been too sweet to my tastes, compared to the base beer.

Re: Modern trends

GLB are still making most of their West coast IPAs. Well, I guess octopus isn't really West coast in hops profile maybe, but it's not a haze bomb. Canuck straddles the line between pale ale and IPA, both are available year round. Karma Citra was on the shelves in the fall, I think they're all still ...

Re: Modern trends

Oh, on the sweetness note. I think it's a good point that this does make for relatively accessible beer, that might appeal to many who are used to mixers, wine, coolers, ciders, etc. What's odd to me is that it seems to be the non-mainstream breweries that are pushing this stuff, and the price point...

Re: Modern trends

I think there's definitely an element of me (us?) preferring the beers we first got into craft beer with at play here too. I suspect that if I were, oh fuck I'm getting old, 15 years younger and just getting my first exposure I'd be chasing the haziest of hazies and deriding the overly bitter and ki...

Modern trends

I was reading the blurb on a new breweries website about what kind of beer they want to make, and it got me thinking about the current trends in craft beer: Our brewing focus is on the modern beer styles we love to drink, share and seek out. Top of the list are hazy and juicy hop-forward IPAs--big o...

The LCBO do deliver though, they just do it through Canada Post. They rolled out Foodora for their stuff too, but i think got caught off guard when Foodora left Canada.

Re: Coronavirus

I doubt that alcohol consumption has gone down much, so I think the brewers will survive this generally speaking. But the demand is so different now. Pretty much zero kegs going out the door, but probably a lot more cans/bottles. Rejigging their production to fill cans instead of kegs must be a pain...
