Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Really depends on the location. Most of the good hoods in the city have local joints where conversations are struck up. Other places, not so much. Toronto's definitely not the friendliest city around though, that's for sure. Like in Leslieville, where I live, I've struck up conversations in The Roy,...

Re: LCBO Online Exclusives

It's probably easier to charge that price here because there isn't much competition. Like if I could get the Crooked Stave sours that were just online for 8.25 for a 375 ml bottle all the time, I probably wouldn't ever spend 30 on Cascade. But a lot of the time it's them or a not as good sour if I'm...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Salvator is pretty darn good, and nicely priced at 3 bucks. It's sorta funny. For all the LCBO stinks, sometimes they can bring in a good beer like this, relatively fresh, at a good price. My experience in shops in the US is getting a beer like that would be a little dicey. They all have it, but it ...

Re: Free trade?

Lotsa fluff in that article. I'm pretty sure Ontario brewers pay the lab fees too. The meat of the complaint must be this: In his letter to Ontario Trade Minister Todd Smith, Bilous complains that Ontario gives local brewers access to stores over Alberta brewers, gives Ontario beverages preferential...

Re: Uncorked-Wine and Spirits Appreciation

But I was curious about this one: http://www.vintages.com/lcbo-ear/vintag ... ber=618991

Or if you want to go really fancy, there's an Orphan Barrel in the LCBO right now, but it's really pricey.

Re: Collective Arts

Flying monkeys chocolate manifesto, for example, used to always be a 750 bottle, but now is in cans. Nope! was at the BO yesterday and, unless the bottles were from last year (difficult to tell with no dates), they are in fact 473ml bottles . (went down to the basement to double check size of last ...

Wowza. I've met Chris a handful of times and he always seemed like a great guy. I guess you never can tell.

Re: Collective Arts

I was in the BO the other day and I was surprised at how much stuff has made the transition to cans. Like forget craft IPAs, I got a can of Paulaner doppelbock. Even the seasonal premium beers are moving to cans. Flying monkeys chocolate manifesto, for example, used to always be a 750 bottle, but no...

Re: Anyone Brewing Something Special for the Holiday's?

Great lakes makes a winter ale.

Nickel Brook has Cuvee, which I don't think it's really a Christmas beer but they normally release it over the holidays, I think.

Black Oak releases Nutcracker (cinnamon) Porter every year.

Plus I'm sure there will be lots of one offs and such if you dig around.

Different varieties get harvested at slightly different times but... September? Maybe early October, at the latest.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Surely that beer is a little past prime now? Wet hop beers age especially poorly and the hop harvest was a while ago.

Re: Winter Seasonal Craft Beer Release 2018/19

Nice list, looking forward to Traquair Jacobite Ale and Oskar Blues Hot Box Coffee Porter. Insel Kreide could be a good one for the holidays. From the north German brewer: "A seductive beer for festive occasions: brewed with chalky water and fermented with Bière Brut yeast. Delicate fruity bou...
