Re: Edmonton?

Another solid time in Edmonton. Hit up the usual spots, Beer Revolution, Craft, Underground. Definitely seemed to be a lot more Alberta beer on tap, for better or for worse. Few new spots (to me anyway): Situation Brewing: Really cool spot, and probably the best beer I've had from Alberta. MKT: jus...

Re: Edmonton?

Nothing has changed much in the last year. No new bars have opened that add to the 'scene'. You will see more Alberta beers on taps lists, though!

CRAFT are changing to their new 2017 beer menu as of today; not sure what will be different.

Re: CRAFT Beer Market - Toronto

Big, corporate looking venues in Calgary & Edmonton, but they do bring in good beers (or at least in Alberta they do). Beer always seems fresh, food is good, some staff are knowledgeable, They do work a lot with local brewers to do dinners, beer releases, festivals. You shouldn't be disappointed.

Re: Bar Volo - new(ish) food menu

Sad news indeed. Supped my first pint there in August 2004 when I moved from the UK, and it quickly became my local. Met and made a lot of friends, regularly took over the patio with the usual crowd during the warmer months, had a lot of great (and not so great) beers, went to every Cask Days sessio...

Re: Edmonton?

I recommended it as it's one of the places 'to go' in Edmonton if you like beer. And we only have a small handful of 'beer bars'. I happen to like beer, but don't like Beer Rev. I can still offer recommendations even if the place doesn't appeal to me :) Fair enough. Out of the places you've mention...

Re: Edmonton?

I'm still not too sure what the draw of Beer Rev is. My friends rave about it, but it just comes across as a soulless room with beers that hang around too long, and given the tap quantity, the choice can be severely lacking. I've only been there maybe half a dozen times since it opened, and it just ...

At the EBGA Freeze Your Cask Off winter ale festival planning session last night, had the chance to try:

French Quarter Temptress by Lakewood Brewing Company

Black Toasted Malt Stout by Tuatara Brewery - Fantastic looking bottle!

I had that Barahonda last year. Got it for around $12.00 down in Montana. It was a very nice, easy drinking, value for money Spanish red.

Re: Seattle

I was there in June and did the Frelard "pub crawl". Started at 11am, we hit up Fremont, then proceeded to Schilling's, Brouwers, Outlander, Hales, Bad Jimmy's, Populuxe, Lucky Envelope, Reuben's and finished in Peddler's at around 10.30pm. Sadly, we missed Stoup as they were closed. Also ...

Re: Uncorked-Wine and Spirits Appreciation

I recently had the LAN 2007 Rioja Riserva. Gotta say I was a little disappointed with it overall. All the goodness of the Tempranillo grape, with nice balanced acidity, fruits and oak but it just felt a little too thin on the body, a little wishy-washy. I did recently grab a case of this in Edmonton...

EBGA Real Ale Festival 2015 - Edmonton, AB

IF any of the BT'ers are passing through Alberta this coming September, we'd love to see ya. For the 2015 edition we are moving the event outdoors! The venue is the outdoor hockey rink at the Ritchie Community League. The outdoor hockey rink gives the event a larger space, allowing more patrons, and...

Re: Uncorked-Wine and Spirits Appreciation

Had the pleasure of trying a new, rare vintage port we've just brought into the Alberta market; Krohn 1965 Vintage Port. Amazingly delicate in aromas and flavours. Has the appearance of an aged Tawny. Sun dried raisins, caramel, molasses, treacle toffee, hints of red fruits, slight fruity sourness. ...
