Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). New beer blog

Because I'm a shameless tart, I just want to use this opportunity to flog my blog (hey! it rhymes!) to those who might be interested:

http://thelibeerian.blogspot.com

Comment, follow, call me out... all fair game.

EDIT: Sorry, accidently misposted the url. Should work now!

Funnily enough, I happened by chance to be in NYC last week and was at both events... in a word: amazing.

Thanks for the input, I'll try to bear all this stuff in mind! Also, other than L'Autre Oeil and Marche Jovi, are there any other decent places (both for food and beer) in Gatineau?

Ottawa

Hey all, I'm heading to Ottawa in a few weeks for the first time in about 15 years, so I'm interested in any places worth checking out in the Ottawa/Hull area. I'll be staying at the Albert at Bay Suites, so I hope the location isn't too troublesome by foot, although moderate cab distances aren't re...

There were some good ones last night, although the Black Oak had the peculiar distinction of being both the best and worst beer I had. The first sample I had early in the evening was fantastic - refreshing and complex. The second sample I had later in the evening (9:30 or so) was, I presume, at the ...

Yep, the Grad Lounge isn't bad - somewhere before I posted about it. The line-up is solid, but the appearance of stuff like Fruli and Erdinger is a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, at the moment I drive to school, but the 100-yard proximity to Osgoode is nice.

Yep, the Okocim Porter is exactly what I reached for after shovelling, followed later in the evening by Great Divide's Hibernation Ale, which was delicious. Having said that, this weather can't be too much more coming... or can it? If so, I'm stocked with enough winter warmers to keep me going til J...

I've also had a Magnotta grappa that was drinkable, although certainly not a competitor for some of the true Italian ones. Indeed, the one that I had was (I believe) vanilla-flavoured.

For those Ontario brewers filling the gap, I hope we either get some seasonal releases we haven't seen yet or brewers who aren't distributing bottles via the LCBO/TBS yet (hello Church Key!) Amen. While this could be a monumental cock-up in terms of one of our (too few) chances to get something new...

Curiously, I stumbled upon the grad bar at York a while back and was surprised to find that they had Wellington Arkell on cask, as well as a decent lineup of other beer, including Fruli and Erdinger. Only problem, of course, is that it's at York. Also, I drive, and seriously, who wants to drink up a...

King Pilsbock

Is this still available at the King Brewery? I'm at school up at York now, which puts me fairly close, but I just wanted to check and see if anybody knew before I made the trip.

With respect to the growlers, I have heard that they will be doing them, which is great news for mixing it up a bit here and there.

It is open on Sundays. There's actually brunch from 10:30, I believe. I don't know the number, but I remember the menu stating that it's 7 days a week.
