Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

I'm glad to see that, after a brief disappearance, Maclean's seems to be back in production: their Pale Ale is on tap once again at my local (the Done Right Inn). It's a good beer and I hope it sticks around.

Nichlson's is a fairly decent chain, with generally a good selection of ales. The Coal Hole on the Strand near Charing Cross in London is one of their best -- a really nice boozer, with a number of guest ales every day. They usually have Thornbridge Jaipur IPA on cask, one of my favourite British be...

Greetings from Warsaw, Poland. I just came back to my hotel after a terrific pit stop. Went to the Kompania Piwna Podwale restaurant bar in the Old Town. A litre and then a half litre of superbly fresh Pilsner Urquell (they sell oceans of it), washing down delicious beef tartare. Urquell on tap is o...

Desparate times for mainstream beer companies

Japanese brewers are desparate. I wonder how long before others climb on the bandwagon?

I was in the area yesterday about 4:20, and thought I would try them out. Their door was locked. The guy behind the bar looked at me blankly through the window and then continued talking to others stading at the bar, totally ignoring a potential customer. Their website says they open at 4 p.m. Not a...

Pliny the Younger and Beer Advocate

Here's an interesting article from Slate on Pliny the Younger and the "democracy" of Beer Advocate.
