I always felt Kingston was ripe for a good craft tap house. I've always enjoyed brewpubs, but sometimes the quality and imagination wanes the further you get away from a metro centre. The thrill of house beers is the marketing and recipe potential, but there is the price tag attached. I guess it's a...

Just a year or two ago I would have said brewpub. It seems like we are seeing 2 to 3 new brewery launches in Ontario a year. I guess I'm wondering if a less sophisticated consumer would be more excited seeing an array of different tap handles from across the province throughout the year or fewer tap...

From an outside the GTA perspective (ie. Central or Eastern Ontario), would you rather open a brewpub or good beer bar, and which do you think would be more successful?

Contract Brewing
So what is the deal with contract brewing in Ontario? There are no forms on the AGCO website regarding contract brewing, yet there are several contract brews available in Ontario. Headstrong (draft at Grand River), Wolfgang, C'est What Hemp (Durham), Magnetawan River (Heritage). I guess the question...

New owners have taken over the entire property. Initially George was hoping to work out a new deal with them, then they gave him a month's notice to leave. They looked at some other locations, but it is a case of too much money and not enough time. So, that's it. Don't look for the new owners to do ...

La Cachette du Bootlegger
Sorry if this has been discussed before.
Has anyone ever ordered the Superbatch brew kits from La Cachette du Bootlegger?
How expensive was the shipping and how were the results?
Thanks!

The owner is my brother-in-law and we talk a lot about his taps. He is loyal to Sleemans because they have been very good to him, ie they installed a very nice tower and support him with promo pieces for giveaways, golf tournaments, etc. Ironically he can't move Sleemans beers so that is why you see...

Contract Brewing in ON
So there seems to be a lot of new Contract Breweries opening up here in Ontario. However, a quick search on the AGCO site does not mention licensing for such ventures. Your can apply for a new manufacturing license or a transfer. A few years back I was speaking to an industry type who claimed the pr...

Not to hijack a thread but this reminds me of the situation of my brother-in-law who in the last year bought a pub in London. For years I have drug him across Ontario and New York State to beer festivals and good beer bars and we totally see eye-to-eye on well made, yet more aggressive styles of bee...

Stopped in on Sunday afternoon and grabbed a growler of the Square Nail and the Irish Ale. For some reason I thought the restaurant was in operation, but it is at least 2 years away. They will be running a patio this summer and at $3.50 a glass it could be a must locale. They are grabbing some local...

Scott owned St. Veronus, Olde Stone, Hot Belly Mamas, and Brio Gusto. He sold them all except Brio. I believe Roland purchased St. Veronus from Scott after managing it for several years. Scott is the owner of the Ritz and still owns Brio. He was the original brewer at Olde Stone and stepped in again...
