Re: What're you drinking right now?

A few from the Across the Nation east coast 6 pack. Sometimes i forget the target market for this thing is the molbatts drinker who wants to take some baby steps wading out of the shallow end. So far its coming off like Beer Camp with Kamp Krustyesque councillors. Quidi Vidi Hefe collab: seemed wat...

Re: Smithworks Brewing Company

Coming out of lurk-mode to say these guys have really impressed lately. Love the dedication to German styles while everyone else runs off in all directions. Always been a bit of a keller-nut, but their mix pack was in heavy rotation in my fridge this summer. Nice bit of maturity in the operation, Cr...

Re: Ottawa and area help

Too late on this, but, for the record, the Welly doubles as pub, so don't feel intimidated about just going for a bar seat. It's a very casual place.

Re: Ottawa and area help

I find Brothers'list is often out of date (even the menu a at the restaurant). Can't speak to Hintonburg.

Re: Ottawa and area help

I will be in Ottawa the weekend after next for a work function and am looking to make the most of things and check out the craft beer scene as I’ve never been. I should have a couple of hours on Friday evening and a good chunk of time Saturday afternoon for personal (i.e., drinking) time. I won’t h...

Re: Where to go in Ottawa?

Go to Hintonburg, hit up BtP and Tooth and nail. Go to Hintonburg Public House for good local taps and snacks. You can find everything else in the guide thread.

Re: Vancouver Updates

Just back from a week in a very hot, dry, and smoky Vancouver. There for a wedding, so not a beer-focussed trip. Nonetheless, hit up a few breweries: Brassneck - I walked all the way from Library Square to Main & 6th on a disgustingly hot Tuesday. Great tasting room, looks nice and a range of sa...

Re: Miller Coors being sued because Blue Moon is marketed as a craft beer

The beer certainly tastes no different if they're owned by one of the big guys. But I would still go more often for a truly independent craft beer because I don't like AB Inbev et. al.'s anti-competitive practices (e.g. TBS and LCBO interference). On top of this, the only reason they're trying anyt...

Yeah, Kekumba and Kel cover it. Big Rig makes some nice and different beers. Gold is neither of those things. And Broadhead is great for the Ontario beer scene of 2005.

Beer Store Lobbying Exposed

While the last Cohn article wasn't particularly shocking to anyone here, every paragraph in this one is incredible to me

Ottawa's boom continues:

Exciting to see brewing hubs develop in Hintonburg and East Ottawa.

Just read that 'big rig - black ipa' tall cans will be at the lcbo soon. What an odd choice for their second (?) LCBO release. Would have liked the hopfenweisse. To each his own; I'd prefer a black IPA. Not questioning that, but just curious why you refer to it as an "odd" choice? Fair en...
