Re: LCBO Online Exclusives

My local always insists I open the box to make sure everything is in order.

Re: Doug Ford

While I'm sure every craft brewery would love less regulation, the whole concept of 'buck a beer' is antithetical to craft beer, and possibly even a threat to the growth of craft. In this case, actual $1 beers may never surface again in Ontario, but Ford is propping up the notion of cheap suds, wher...

Re: Witchstock 2018

Totally slipped my mind this morning, but luckily there are still tickets available. I really feel good about this purchase. I spent $100 at the fest last year felt very satisfied. $40 more this year (including fees) is just not that big of a hill to climb, especially considering it's open bar, more...

Re: Witchstock 2018

I too am not a fan of the format change. However, I do think last year was a bit of a steal at $50 + $3 per sample and I still managed to spend about $50 on beer. The pay-per-sample structure did nothing to deter me from sampling as many beers as possible — and I wasn't the only one with this modus ...

Re: Doug Ford

I’m all for lower beer prices. But as I’ve outlined previously on this forum I think the high price floor on beer in Ontario has actually helped craft by making it not that much more expensive than macro swill. When you’re paying $50 for a case of macro is makes the leap to craft not that much of a ...

Re: Vancouver Updates

I spent a few days in Vancouver last week and was blown away by the local beer scene. It was my first time there and it seems like good craft is everywhere. The town is awash in hazy IPAs, lots of experimentation with wine barrels going on as well. If you only go to one bar/restaurant pick Alibi Roo...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

I would be worried it's sickly sweet, but glowing Ratebeer reviews suggest otherwise. I won't resist this beast.

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

The latest batches of fruited Jelly King have been awesome. I always enjoyed the variants, but IMHO none were ever better that the original JK. However, I think Raspberry and Boysenberry Plum are standouts. Very fruity but the trade-marked Five-Alive JK character comes though nicely. Jelly Kiss and ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Lindemans Cuvée René is rolling out. This is a bit of a surprise to me, as I don't think it's part of any seasonal release. Gotta love surprise gueuze! Also this batch is 6% abv, usually I've seen this at 5.5%.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Crooked Stave Bière de Garde — This may be my first Bière de Garde. Pours a deep copper/chestnut. Nose is bready malt with some lemon and oak. Rather tart with a nice malt backing, balanced. Drinks like a dark sour. More dark, malty and sour and less dry, spicy and carbonated than most Belgian style...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

Founders seems to be extra conservative on the bb dates. Even KBS says to drink within about a year but I'm sure it could go many years.

I notice the 2018 KBS is 12.3% vs 11.9% last year. Every little bit helps!
