Re: Schneider Weisse Mein Cuvée Barrique

With this one scheduled to return to the LCBO any day now I opened up my last bottle of the 2015 vintage. It has held up very well and seems a bit less sour (more balanced) than I remember. Still quite tart, fruity, wine like, dry. One helluva brew. Back in 2015 I couldn't find many details about ho...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Beau's 49° 54° Fogo Island myrrh-smoked gose. Despite scoffing at this a couple times on the shelf, I got one as a gift and it's actually pretty good. The flavours are mild: wheat beer-ish fruity esters, smoke and salt. It's not tart at all. It's hazy as apricot nectar (once you disrupt the sediment...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Blood Brothers Unify or Die (7% stout with coffee, cinnamon and vanilla) — Really well done.
Spencer Trappist Monks' Reserve Ale (quad) — Nice beer, surprisingly smooth. But not on par with the Belgian Quadfathers.
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout — Old faithful, as good as ever.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I'm a little disappointed with GLB's Ol' Grandpa Eggnog White Stout this year. I've had it in cans and on tap. Previous years, that I recall, it's been served on nitro. This year it isn't, at least at Bar Hop 1, I haven't had it anywhere else yet. It doesn't of course have the same mouth feel as pr...

3 Fonteinen Cuvée Armand & Gaston (bottled 02/07/2018) — Musty barnyard, stone fruit, citrus, punchy sourness, bone dry. Hits the spot wonderfully, paired with a fatty salmon steak.

Re: Doug Ford

Call me optimistic but there could be real value in getting feedback from brewers, event organizers, bars/restaurants. Surveys are useful tools and Dougy wants to be Mr. Open For Business. Updating the puritan beer regulations is low-hanging fruit with minimal electoral cost, perhaps even a gain. Al...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I too am a fan of smaller serving sizes and price tags. However sometimes you do get what you pay for. The Lickinghole (Lackinghole?) Heir Apparent is not on par with other fine examples of the style. Ditto for the Boulevard (which is actually only 2/3 barrel aged), and pales in comparison to Kentuc...

Re: LCBO Online Exclusives

Also there are some nice Evil Twin beers (Bible Belt and Imperial Doughnut Break) which I used to round out my Oude Pijpen (now sold out) order yesterday. Some of these products are showing 1 unit in stock at random stores, so they don't show up when you search for "Online Exclusives".. wh...

Yes I just popped the cork on one tonight. It’s a very nice brew, lots of deep cherry and not as sour as expected. And it’s really hard to believe this is 8% abv. With a best before date in the 2030s I may grab another 6 if I see them around.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Boulevard Whiskey Barrel Stout — This brew is actually a blend, containing 1/3 fresh (non barrel aged) beer, and you can definitely tell. It's just not as intense as your average well-made BARIS (Double Tempest comes to mind). But it is a tasty stout no less with whiskey barrel and chocolate/caramel...

Rochefort 10 circa 2013. It's a good one.

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

I'm thinking these Lickinghole (just makes your mouth water, doesn't it?) beers are some sort of agency private order. Hope to get my hands on some.

Re: Blood Brothers Brewing

They are pretty heavily skewed towards sour styles I agree. My previous visit left me with the same impression — an abundance of While Lies variants.. which are good beers. Also I wasn't blown away by Shumei. However Balam is one of the best coffee stouts to have graced my palate. Also enjoyed Devi...

Re: Blood Brothers Brewing

I stopped by here last week and was pretty impressed with range on offer. I should go more ofen. Currently drinking Hocus Pocus. On the can: "Nitro sour brewed with cherries, vanilla and Mandarina Bavaria. Shake before pouring." It's really tasty and unique. Love the cherry-vanilla interpl...
