Amsterdam BrewHouse

I was here on a beautiful day this weekend. The location and venue are really great. However not much about the service has changed in the 2 years since I last visited. My server did not really know what was on tap despite me grilling him 2-3 times asking about what else is available. I walked down ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

There is fresher stock of the Modern Times beers. Canned in late April, if I remember correctly.

Re: Tennessee Tavern

The Rhino (based on my last visit) seems to mainstreamed their draft choices and some of the smaller places (Grand Trunk etc) offer uninspiring choices, even if they fall into the "craft" category. Passed by the Rhino this weekend and I'd say the tap list was decent. However, I spotted We...

Re: Beer in Grocery Stores

I believe the private sellers are explicitly banned from competing on price and hours of operation vs. the LCBO & TBS. Gotta love competition!

Re: LCBO Spring 2018 Craft Beer Release

Just opened up another Timmerman's Oude Gueuze. Unfortunately this one was flat as a pancake. The cork and cage seemed in order and it was the fullest bottle on the shelf. It's still drinkable if you're committed. but seriously diminished without bubbles.

Tennessee Tavern

I visited Tennessee Tavern in Parkdale yesterday and this place is great. The tap list is well above average with stuff from Halo, Bellwoods, Small Pony, DDC, Blood Brothers, Fairweather and more. They do 12 oz pours for around $7-$8. Small Pony Half Remembered Dream was $7 for 6 oz, but very delici...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Timmermans Oude Gueuze — Lovely lambic, pours rather hazy with a mix of lemon, green apple, apricot, barnyard funk. Effervescent and dry. Not as puckering as Lindemans CR and Oud Beersel OG. This one strikes me as less intense, especially on the flavour. More balanced. Drinks quicker with less chees...

Re: LCBO Spring 2018 Craft Beer Release

Rodenbach Caractère Rouge and Timmermans are rolling out.

Rodenbach Caractère Rouge seems to be a steal at $8.70, it's listed for US$27.99 at Total Wine. Timmermans is a good value at $6 too, US$7.99 at Total Wine.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

John Tory said this is great weekend to watch "sports and Netflix." Seems to me as good a time as ever to pull out a Val-Dieu Grand Cru. I warmed it under the tap to ~8C and poured it into a Chimay chalice, which sits comfortably in the hand while looking out the window, thankful I have no...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Nickelbrook Headstock IPA - On sale and canned April 9. Bellwoods Monogamy Mosaic For the past couple years I revisit Headstock periodically, hoping it will be as good as I remember it in days gone by (back when the cans were hideous and it was my favorite local IPA). Drinking this back to back with...

Re: LCBO Summer 2018 Craft Beer Release

Interesting, by style (some could fit in two categories). Glad they aren't bringing in many inevitably stale IPAs.

Saison x5
Fruit ale x4
Kriek x2
Sour x1
IPAx1

You gotta seize the chance to drink a Norwegian dopplebock! I enjoyed it as well. Not too sweet like some lesser doppelbocks (Common Good's, for example). I enjoyed the fruity/roasty maltiness. It really shines at warmer temperatures.
