Girardin White is a great everyday Gueuze Belgian. Yes. It's a Trad Lambic, but not one of the most assertive. I'd argue that any of the traditional Geuze is an "everyday Geuze". :) Commercial (sweet) and traditional (sour and dry) are better, more useful descriptors. Someone might think ...

Re: DE RANKE AND LAMBICS

We are submitting an order to the LCBO next week for De Ranke Cuvee and Kriek as well as the XX Bitter and we'll bring in anything else from De Ranke that someone might be interested in. Again, please e-mail us directly at espritagencies@sympatico.ca. Great news! Thanks Peter. You are providing ont...

Re: LAMBIC

Liefmans is not a producer of lambic beers. They produce sour brown ales generally referred to as Oude Bruin. We periodically bring in their Goudenband. We also regularly bring in De Ranke's Cuvee and Kriek both of which are Oude Bruins blended with Girardin lambic. We have just received our first ...

I LOVE the St. Louis. US prices are around $3-4, Volo is about $12. A better Gueuze than the Cuvee Rene, really sour up front but not alot of complexity like more expensive gueuzes. Right, the Belle Vue Gueuze the LC had some 15 years ago was well worth the $36.00 for a twelve-case. These simpler G...

Liefman's Cuve Brut and St-Louis Grand Fond Tradition

It's real nice to see more sours come through the LCBO. I remember when we'd wait 5 years between releases (for example when Rodenbach Grand Cru made it's way the first time). Are these the only two sours on its way? I also saw that the Liefman's Goudenband, which has come back to form in the last c...

I agree that it is preferable (to my palette anyway) to the Rodenbach Grand Cru.

(If you ever see 'beer soup' on a menu don't order it though.) Why not? I make beer based soups all the time and they're great. You are making a soup based on quality, finished beer. Different. I'm talking the horrid sour/mealy unfinished beer-made-into-soup type of abomination I tried in Bavaria w...

I hope you realize just how little isinglass is used to clear beer. It's in the order of 1/3 tsp for every case of 24 bottles. Then it attaches itself to protein and yeast cells and increases the rate of sedimentation. It has all but left the product by the time the beer is ready for drinking. It d...

I was recently in Thunder Bay. I visited a local Beer Store, and asked the clerk if there were any local or regional beers I should try. He laughed and said they were planning on changing the sign on the Beer Store to the Coors Light Store so out of towners would stop asking stupid questions. :oops...

Current price of Rochefort 10 in Consignment (we're sold out of the current shipment) is $4.95. Gone are the days of under $4 Rochefort 10...we're still a bargain compared to the U.S. and will continue to be but we won't be giving the stuff away anymore and it seems that true beer lovers out there ...

Are Früli, Erdinger and D. Tremens all represented by the same agent? I guess the next beer review will be Dekonnick if McClelland gets it's way my dear Princess. Come out, come out wherever you are... By the way, Erdinger is likely my least favorite weissbier that the LCBO has carried. That would b...

Most of us have tried it I imagine. I personally liked it and my wife who does not usually like beer all that much liked it as well. Threre are several beers that are similar sold here in Ontario. Any Belgian lambic sold here will be of the same kind = sweet fruity and a little tiny bit sour. Try Be...

There's room for any brewpub in Toronto. If I were you guys I'd stop whining about good things coming to your town before they make it there just because it could be better for your own personal selective taste buds. Even amongst this group, there is a huge range of preferences. If Les Trois Brasse...
