Re: What're you drinking right now?

Quite surprise to see Bellwoods Greenbelly TIPA in the LCBO. I don’t tend to get behind tipas as they’re usually too seeet for me. Had a Greenbelly a couple years back though and it’s one of the very few I enjoyed.

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

Have to admit I've pretty much given up on Nickel Brook. Too bad as I enjoyed them back in the day. Something seems off now, though. I’m kind of the same opinion….i tend to just gloss over them if I’m in the LCBO grabbing stuff. Unlike most, I was never a big headstock guy to begin with. All this b...

I’ve never even heard of them.

Re: What's Your Favourite Ontario West Coast IPA?

I think I'll have to do a taste test for WC IPAs and WC DIPAs when I finish my current non-alcoholic binge, lol. Wonder if Bellwoods will ever re-do the original Witchshark recipe? Sure hope so. The new versions isn’t a patch on the original. Although, to be fair I havnt had Witchshark in 3-4 years...

Re: Royal City

As expected, the Godspeed/De La Senne collab was the standout. Incredibly clean and crisp with a light Smokey finish. Not surprised at all that the keg was gone before the end of the first night. True History was also really really good along with the Sonnen Hill. Goodlot’s Pilsner really hit the sp...

Re: Lot 41 - Delta Marriott Pearson Airport

The place closest to my work, The Shakespeare Arms, was one of those places pretty much forever. They just recently got a single rotating tap of craft, which seems like it's ending up just alternating Great Lakes IPAs. Such a nice change. I haven’t been into Shakeys for probably 15 years, despite l...

Re: What's Your Favourite Ontario West Coast IPA?

I wish we could get Two Hearted here. I have a Quick Beer video trip to Kalamazoo in March and I'm trying to get an interview with Bell's. Since they're now owned by Kirin/Lion I guess the old reasons for why they never came to Ontario – supposedly Larry Bell refused to deal with LCBO – don't apply...

Re: What's Your Favourite Ontario West Coast IPA?

Was so happy to find this thread, it made my get an account. Agree with lots of the above. 1. Boneshaker 2. Lake Effect/Octopus/Karma Citra 3. Headstock 4. Lone Pine 5. Mad Tom. I miss Smashbomb. It was the beer that turned me to IPA's and with all the hazy stuff flying monkey does now, I wish they...

Re: Royal City

There is a “lager-fest” happening at Royal City on Family Day weekend. There’s some big hitters from the Ontario lager scene attending. Godspeed,True History and Sonnen Hill will all be there. Shortfinger and Willibald amoung others. Each of the past 3-4 years I’ve looked forward to Royal City relea...

Sparrow brewing

I’m a little surprised there isn’t a thread already on Sparrow. I’ve been drinking their stuff for a couple years now and they’re going from strength to strength. Each time I stop in, they are always quite busy and it’s seemingly become a really popular spot with locals. Turning into a real neighbou...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

A bottle of Barncat’s Flanders Red. One of the unlabelled last minute releases in their final days. I ended up buying a case, as the price was a steal, and I’m glad I did. Nice cherry tartness playing off lots of oak flavour. Will make for a killer Carbonade Flamande. My stash of Barncat is slowly d...

No, but I did see a picture of the new branding/name. Not a great thing to judge a book by its cover, but……….

Re: Fine Balance

I managed to get my hands on a good number of their stuff recently. The IPAs I’ve had so far have all been very good, I find them particularly good at getting mileage out of the lower abv offerings and making them seem bigger than they are. Everything has been hazy in style but restrained in the swe...
