Decoy Bar (Queen/Parliament)

I just wanted to post about Decoy Bar (370 Queen St. E.) here in east end Toronto. A small place with a rotating draft menu of good stuff, as well as some bottles. Worth checking out!

Re: Recruiting back to the Bar Towel

Cass, thank you very much for the email. I've been missing for a long while, but am still interested in beer and beery things. And you're right. Twitter and the other social media spaces are just not the same as a good 'ol forum. Hope to be more of a participant here (again).

Thanks for the recommendations and glad that London seems to be hopping (bad joke) with new and old beer places. I just downloaded CAMRA's mobile version of their Good Beer Guide and that should be useful during my trip as well.

I'll be heading over to England for 2 weeks in June, and will be mostly in London with perhaps a couple of days in Liverpool and/or Cambridge. I found this "chain" which seems to operate decent pubs all over the country and wondered if anyone knew anything more about them: http://nicholson...

I actually bought a couple of 650ml bombers but worried about the crown caps. I thought the screwcap on a growler might be more secure?

Thanks, Ceecee. 16L is quite a lot! With current baggage restrictions and extra weight charges, I think I'll stick with a growler. But helpful to know...

I am heading to a town in central France called Clermont-Ferrand in a couple of weeks to attend the world's most important film festival for short film (i run a quarterly short film screening series here in Toronto called Shorts That Are Not Pants - all y'all should come!). I was told by previous at...

Was just here last night and impressed with the list of beers on tap. Lots of local stuff. Tried Junction Conductor's Craft Ale for the first time, and happy to see Denison's Dunkel on the menu too. They were actually OUT of their cask selection by 8pm when I arrived, which was too bad. For food, th...

Why doesn't the Toronto event have its own thread? Does anyone know how much the sample tickets will cost? I know it's for charity but $25 only includes one sample. Need to know how much cash to bring along! :)

Just got back from Brauhaus and must say it was seriously impressive. 11 beers on display, and my ticket got me 8 samples and a very nicely-designed tasting glass, as well as some great food. Out of those 8 samples, only two were less than delicious. Serious props to Jeremy, both of whose beers, tho...

I think you can buy more than one ticket. And just for the record, I've never homebrewed in my life, but am thinking about it.

I just like learning more, especially in a friendly environment. Looking forward to it!

Brauhaus

Posted this over in the Beer Events section, too, but wondered if anyone was planning to attend the next Brauhaus homebrew tasting event, this coming Saturday? It sounds like a great time and might help answer a few questions for someone (like me) who's considering starting to brew. http://www.brauh...

Brauhaus

Anyone going to the next Brahaus homebrew tasting event this coming Saturday? I've signed up but won't know anyone there at all. Sounds like a great idea, though. You pay for a tasting glass and then can sample from 10 different brews over the course of the night. A few tickets left, I think. Go to ...

Orval is a beautiful place, although you can't really access the brewing (or the cheesemaking) facilities. The abbey has gorgeous ruins and there is a display on the brewing process that is interesting. It might be a bit out of your way, though. Leuven is nice, too. A university town about half an h...

Just got back from 10 days in Southern California (Huntington Beach to San Diego) and got a chance to visit a few places, briefly. 1) Stone Brewing in Escondido - located in an industrial park, with no signage outside (tour guide said owners thought people who wanted to find it would find it). Tour ...
