LCBO Fall Release

A little early to talk this up too much, but I've heard a rumor that the fall release is going to feature a new pilsner from Creemore.

I have this nervous tic that starts up any time I see "deconstructed" on a restaurant menu.

Location and freshness of beer aside, the biggest argument I can see against a 100 tap bar is the lack of interesting drafts in Ontario. I mean, really, after you cover the major domestics and imports, you've got what, 70-75 taps left to fill? With what?

Taking back when you buy anew is a fine theory, Greg, and one which would no doubt work if they were talking about receiving the returnable bottles at the LCBO. But they're not. The idea I've heard floated is returning the bottles to the Beer Store, which I almost never patronize and which is for ce...

While "returnable" is a handy catch phrase that on the surface sounds great, this would also amount to an effective tax on non-car owning urbanites. I'm a proud pedestrian/transit rider and taking beer bottles back to the (horrible-and-usually-shunned) Beer Store is already bad enough. Add...

Tried the Negra Modelo for the first time last night and can't disagree more about its Vienna-ness. The nose smells to me like adjunct and the body tastes of added caramel, which is probably what it is, considering where the beer comes from. Not much redeemable about this one, I think.

According to a story in the current issue of Movie Entertainment magazine, which I picked up at a Rogers store, the Portland Ber House is supposed to be up to 50 taps by this month and 100 at the end of the year. Last I heard this spot was for sale, so if this is true it's quite the development.

Based on the pairings he was offered, I expect that I'd find wine the winner, too. That's like crafting a great beer dinner and then offering a selection of Piat D'Or, Kressman and Yellow Tail as wine alternatives. Which do you think would win THAT battle? Dining with beer in Toronto? Let's see...Be...

I've gotta side with Belgian on this front. I mean, we've got Paulaner, Erdinger, Schneider, Hacker and Maganotta as German-style wheats...how many more do you need to copmplete the spectrum of tastes? This compared to another great summer style, kolsch, of which we have....uh, none, I guess.

GERMANY --Based on the first set of scanned sales data, it appears that Beck's recent price increase to 15 Euros per case of 20 bottles has surpassed the tolerance level of its consumers, possibly leading to a slight decline in sales of Beck's main brand beer. Rumor has it that Beck will soon launc...

Actually, Rogue used to call Dead Guy Maierbock, after their brewer, John Maier. And is is possible to brew a bok with an ale yeast, in the Dutch style, at least.
