Re: Fairweather Brewing

FYI.....Fairweather is killing it right now, especially with their hoppy beers. They’ve really gone big on the NE haze. Foreva Eva is supeb hazy session ale at 4.5 % and Fortune and Glory is indeed a really glorious hazy DIPA that is as good as anythig being made in Ontario right now. High Grade IPA...

Re: Grand River Brewing

I seem to recall Getting a mix pack of 6 tall cans, with a couple doubled up, a couple Christmases ago. Don’t know if it was LCBO or Beer Store, though. 5 or so years ago, before rebranding as Inukshuk, their IPA was an under the radar decent hoppy alternative to Mad Tom, 10 Bitter Years etc. It’s a...

Re: Grand River Brewing

They produced The second Ontario wild/sour on record, a malted down flemish red I still have bottles of both the Oaked and Unoaked Vlaams Rood. It changed more over time more than any beer I’ve ever cellared and was marvelous up until about 2016. Still drinkable, but definitely on the downward slid...

Re: Fullers VINTAGE Ale * Series *

There’s very little I seek out in the LCBO nowadays, but I always make an effort to pick up Fullers Vintage Ale. My yearly routine is to pick up a few, try the latest vintage fresh and put 3 or 4 bottles in the cellar. I also always pull out a 5 or 6 year old bottle and a couple of other vintages in...

Re: Belgium

Going to France and Belgium for a week with my wife shortly. Spending most of out time in France with a Fri-Sun in Brussels. My first time to either. A summer Saturday at Cantillon could be miserable for crowds, but it's probably our only shot. Also going to try to hit up Moeder Original and Lambik-...

Re: Fairweather Brewing

Agree, definitely better than average, especially in comparison to many brand new breweries who pump out beers without dialing in recipes or quality control. Nothing that knocked my socks off, but all better than average for style and absolutely no off flavors. Put them in the "very promising&q...

Re: Cantillon Volo Event Aug 8th

Ironically, I will probably be in Belgium that day. But I would have been all over this. Nowadays, there are few reason's I'd drop large amounts of money and time on a beer event, but this would be that event.

Re: Ottawa and area help

Didn't make it out to Dominion City. Did get to Bicycle and Tooth and Nail. Tooth and Nail was later in the day and everyone was bagged, but I enjoyed what I had. Vim & Vigor is boss and probably the best pils is the best pils in the province, so even though it's available in TO, was still happy...

Re: Did Bellwoods go too far with PG

Short answer: Nope.

I'll be honest, lactose and vanilla isn't my thing, but the guava is lush.

I know it's all guava puree, but anyone else get a super herbal guava leaf vibe off of this? It's neat and something I don't know if I've ever gotten off of any other beer.

Re: Ottawa and area help

Thanks guys. Sounds like Tooth and Nail will likely be my number one spot to hit tomorrow, maybe with a jog over to Gatineau if time permits to check out Gainsbourg. I've been to BTD a few times times about 4 years ago, or so might skip that. I'd really like to check out Dominion, but probably wont ...

Re: Ottawa and area help

I'm in Ottawa for a few days for some work related things, but I only have one night to myself for exploring beer. Given that I'm interested in trying local beers that I don't generally have access to in Toronto, if you could choose only one of each in the categories below, what would you recommend?...

Re: The Ontario Craft Beer Guide 2

I get the ranking of Side Launch. They focus on really unsexy styles, but they are well crafted and spot on for style. I think Half Hours might be higher in the future when familiarity with them increases and they work out the occasional QA/QC issues (I catch some very subtle diacetyl and DMS occasi...
