Re: Alcohol regulation changes

I recall that issue going back a while, the owner of 4th & 7 had this or similar happen to him shortly before he decided to close shop (for unrelated personal reasons). A few local locations were under a tighter eye of the AGCO than others.

Re: Muddy York Brewing

Ben Johnson did a recent podcast interview, and the reason they had to drop the Post Office was because the owner was dragging his heels on the reno construction, and MY just couldn't wait any longer if they wanted to open on time.

Re: Winter Release ???

Could that be due to LCBO regulations? Their lab page (see bottom) states a limit of 30 mg per serving. If a can is considered 2 servings, that would cap it at 60 mg of caffeine (or even 30 mg?), equivalent to about 1 shot of espresso. Peche de Mortel is pretty heavy on the coffee, so I assume it wo...

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

I think part of it may be the rapid growth of many breweries in a saturated market, but what is really being downplayed is the interest in other beverages such as RTD cocktails, seltzers, wines, etc as younger generation's tastes change or we become more health conscious. As an anecdote, I just came...

Re: Henderson Brewing @ YYZ

It's actually in a perfect spot for those arriving and wanting to take a quick moment to decompress before figuring out their transit downtown. It was open went I passed by at 8PM today, but after a looong 13h flight with a cranky S/O in tail, I skipped it. But it looks like a nice little spot, with...

Re: Collective Arts

With them not brewing small batches at the Dundas St W location here in Toronto, I think the focus of the brewery has changed. They were always focussing on expansion. Do we have any update on what came of the the NYC Brooklyn location?

Re: Kensington Brewing Company

It was open a month ago, but I haven't checked since.

One redditor in /r/torontocraftbeer mentioned rumours that Mascot had interested in purchasing them, but I can't find any evidence.

The big thing will be the cost, I know Loblaws pays 10s of thousands for a license, and 7/11 will likely by a good chunk for increased traffic.

Re: Breweries Selling outside beers

Maybe as long as a food item is included? I think this is it. A $1.00 bag of chips will do. As I understand it, the law changed during COVID to help restaurants by allowing them to add alcohol to take-out orders. This is an exploitation of that law. I find it really stupid. If you are going to allo...

Re: Montreal

I'm finally going to shed my baby/chicken legs and do some intercity travel. I plan to be in Montreal next week and my schedule should allow for at least one late afternoon into evening of beer exploration. I have many favourites, but the world has changed so much in the last two years. Any suggest...

Brave Noise: Women and their experiences in beer

Erin at Little Beasts has been compiling stories of women and their horrid experiences in the beer industry, on her Instagram. I don't want to add unneeded outside commentary, but I urge people to flip through some of the stories to see what some people in the industry experience that not all of us ...

Great Lakes BURST! A New England Pale Ale coming to the LCBO. https://www.canadianbeernews.com/2020/08/05/great-lakes-brewery-burst-a-new-england-pale-ale-coming-to-lcbo/ For such a large brewery in Ontario, GLB makes it stupidly difficult to buy their beers direct, if you don't want a case of stuf...

Re: Modern trends

That's an interesting description. A lot of the"New World" wines are also very loud, giving you all this berry and spice box upfront at the expense of complexity and development over several minutes... its all about 'size' and immediacy of impact even at the expense of identity of the win...

'Only available for pickup at the brewery or for local Ottawa-area delivery.' Yes and you can add the shipping-restricted items to a cart for delivery, it's a bit confusing especially if using a mobile device. They ended up sending me some shipping-restricted stouts to Toronto. I did that once a ye...
