Re: The Beer Store in the news for losing money

How do you lose money .... instead of improving their business model. The business model was set up to distribute beer for the brewer/owners (currently 2 primary owners: AB Inbev & Molson Coors, and to a smaller extent Sapporo). As Jordan has written many times elsewhere, its meant to be a &quo...

Re: The Beer Store in the news for losing money

How do you lose money when you predominantly sell your own brands in high volume? They also operate a very low frills type of business with little in the way of merchandising, advertising and general customer experience features. No doubt they'll use this to double down on their lobbying efforts aga...

Re: What're you Konxing back right now?

I had a friend mention that he's found a lot of the Omnipollo and Mikkeller stuff coming out of Brunswick to have a sort of papery oxidized note.... Regarding the KONX, I was lucky enough to not have your experience.... Yes that very light cardboardy oxidized thing was there. Just enough to be a li...

Re: What're you linking?

Dang, I just ordered a bunch from Godspeed and I guess Baby Svetly wasn't out yet! I'll have to try it someday. I had the Konx from the LCBO and thought it was one of the best non-alcs I've had...maybe it was a batch thing? Also, I thought it was lower ABV than that, more like 0.3% far as I can tel...

Re: Orval the hills and far away...

Hey, anybody had a few of the recent Orval? Mine is 25/09 2020... same BD as me, and this is the mellowest batch or Orval I can remember in 17 years, it's kind of spicy and fruity and caramelly. There's still some signature funkiness and hop dryness. Orval prides themselves on never making exactly ...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

What am I drinking right now? Orval, of course. It's so nice to have this back, what a wonderful beer. Bottled Sept. 25, 2020 so it's relatively fresh; or at least fresher than I've ever drank it. Right now the hops are very present at the fore with herbal, grassy, and citrusy notes up front. Of cou...

Re: Orval 2021 up from $3.55 to $4.95

Orval now listed. No stock available but hopefully this means it'll be hitting stores any day now... Happy to see Orval back, albeit with a completely fair price update from a few years ago. I had my last Dupont Vielle Provision Saison the other night and decided this brew (or any Saison) + the Orv...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Hey guys, so I am a long time lurker on these forums and an LCBO employee who manages the beer program at a high volume LCBO in Toronto. Orval is indeed coming. Orval has been designated as a "NEW ITEM" for close to a year, in fact. This is typically the case for items coming from out of ...

Re: 2020 Holiday Gift Packs at the LCBO

Finally, O'Hara's makes a return. While I wish it was just the stout individually, I'll take what I can get; probably my all-time favourite Irish dry stout. Some other good looking packs in there as well- time to start saving. So the O'Hara's pack was in both of the KGBOs that I've been in recently...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

So I heard through the grapevine that Orval has shown up in the LCBO warehouse, but it's not listed yet. Don't let me down grapevine! I have a few bottles cellared, bottled around 2013-2016. Though I suspect they are past their prime, It would be interesting to compare them to a new batch. I recall...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

So I heard through the grapevine that Orval has shown up in the LCBO warehouse, but it's not listed yet. I haven't seen any news regarding the LCBO bringing it back, so curious if anyone else has heard anything about this? There's apparently 20k bottles, which seems like a lot for a private order. I...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

I've had A through C now, A and B were decent but C was very underwhelming. Really all I'm left with from this exercise is, what's the point? None of these break any new ground for NB who already have a lineup of 3 year-round IPAs, and in the case of each one are hardly that different from Headstoc...

Re: Storm Stayed

The description for the box says "With eight unique styles curated by our brewers". I'm curious about the language "curated" here. Does this mean Storm Stayed didn't brew it themselves? Am I reading too much into this? I think they just mean the brewers curated the selection of ...
