So basically, they want to send beer to other provinces in the hopes that people elsewhere will buy it? Or in the hopes of creating more accountant's cash flow? Either way, if they have money to spend, all they really have to do is be less cheesy and clean up the production flaws that make their bee...

The niche is an English-style ale of medium-to-light palate that tastes of all-beer; is not touched by oxidation or other faults (not the samples I tried); and - not least - has a pleasant flavour. I welcome other comments too, but appreciate the chance to defend my view. Well, that's why I asked. ...

Oh boy. Where to start. Sailor Hagar's - not brewing. They have a handful of beers made for them by Howe Sound, but no seasonals and not near the variety they used to have. The Wit is distinctly worse, but most of the other remaining brands are better and really taste like Howe Sound brews. Given th...

Re: Nickel Brook Ale

Finally got a bottle of this to try. This is an excellent beer, it's got clean but marked beery flavours, a medium-to-light body and bitterness and nice aftertaste with a pleasant undertone from the top yeast or warmer fermentation. There was not an iota of oxidation in it. Some beers just don't hi...

Re: Cole's I.P.A Festival- Buffalo

Myself and a couple of friends were down in Buffalo on Saturday for the I.P.A festival at Cole's. The cost was $20 US and for that price we got unlimited beers as well as bratwurst. The ales I enjoyed were Two Hearted Ale from Bell's (Kalmazoo, MI), Big Daddy IPA from San Fransisco, and Three Floyd...

Hi guys, I am toying around with a Dogfish Head style in-line hop infuser for the cask ales at Fort York. I haven't tried it out yet, but it looks good. My quandry is, (if it works) which of my 5 one-off festival beers would benefit from its use. I will have 2 beer engines, but only one will have t...

Re: "Premium" Canadian beer to sponsor F1 team

Steelback also becomes the first Canadian company to have its logo which incorporates a maple leaf graphic appear on a Jordan F1 car. The most comical marketing line in a good, long while. Nortel Networks was a sponsor back in 2000, no? Yeah, but it only counts if they have a maple leaf in their lo...

Re: Making America Great!

Once again proving that American Colleges turn out far too many marketing grads: http://www.bootiebeer.com/ Enough said. It's not even that they've got too many marketing grads, it's that they aren't teaching them anything, like that the product has to have real market demand, not just that ...

What the LCBO loves to say is that yes, we and only we can protect you from the evils of alcohol. Except that they don't. They just sell it like any other store would, screening for kids and drunks...the latter debatable. That they actually trumpet this heavy-handed nannying as a desirable trait fo ...

Previous barrel-aged beers in Canada have included DDC Quintessence (maple liqueur), Fat Cat Old Bad Cat Barley Wine (wine)...damn that's all I can think of. Wouldn't be surprised if Voie Maltee Polissonne was aged in whiskey barrels, but I couldn't confirm that. Still a ridiculously short list. The...

Reading the Globe it just gets even more genius. OK, I agree that the plan was never going to benefit any of my beer loving friends in Ontario anyway, but let's look at this stuff: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20050718.w2lcbowine0718/BNStory/National/ 1) $1.5 billion /year of r...

Fun topic. Here's what we've got in BC...a public/private system that is the worst of both worlds. The government has retained distribution rights more or less. There are very few products available at the private shops that aren't available at the government ones. And they are all more expensive, b...
