Re: What're you drinking right now?

Had the Collective Arts Project IIPA #13 - nice! It won't shock you, it's just a very enjoyablee one for summer. Having the Kuchlbauer Turmweisse Hefeweizen, this is fine but not exceptional drinking despite the cool Hundertwasser label. Actually, I have been to this tower in Bavaria. Has the expect...

OGV Old Garnacha Vines 2016

OGV Old Garnacha Vines 2016 This one is OK, not always a fan of Spanish Grenache or Mourvédre (Garanacha and Monastrell.) Big blackberry and sweet black plum notes and chocolate (tea?) plus oak and some interesting tobacco, almost slightly lactic acidity, tomatoes. Almost achieves a kind of dark fl...

Château Bonnin Pichon Gr. Réserve 2015

Château Bonnin Pichon Grande Réserve 2015 Lussac Saint-Emilio's. Here is a nice right bank bordeaux that should be peaking next year but I couldn't wait. I do like tannic wines and this dry red is not too bad at all -already lush with interesting dry cedar and stony slate and pepper notes and tea-l...

3F or FFF, FFS

3F's cardboard box failed the lab. So we're now waiting for a re-testing of the cardboard box and we'll hopefully have it in for the summer Was the cardbox pulp content mislabelled?!? Seems dubious. Probably LC's internal safety & integrity standards. Oh, the beers that have been box-shamed for...

Re: Godspeed Brewery

The newer Baby Shizumu completely rocks, good full taste for a session IPA.

Oberkassel Altbier is also perfectly dry full and tasty for this warmer season.

(Edit - I drank these only cellar-cool, which added to the impression of fulness.)

earliest craft brewers ON

What a retro discussion! I drank Gritstone sometimes, also Niagara Trapper Lager. Way early on I liked Connor's Best Bitter even more than Gritstone, and Algonquin Country Lager which was hazy and unfiltered, making it seem more natural. Upper Canada was a trainwreck of often good beers that could b...

Nickel Brook Cafe Del Bastardo 2019.

Nickel Brook Cafe Del Bastardo 2019 . I highly recommend this, especially if you enjoy an espresso in the middle of the day... I can pour myself a small glass over days and then skip the espresso bar. https://www.canadianbeernews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/nickelbrook_cafedelbastardo.jpg 3 Font...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

Cans are fine but I just hope they didn't mess with the size format. Cause I swear, Aventinus 500ml bottle has been a regular of mine for many years and I consider it to be one of the finest value/taste beers at the BO. I agree and I don't see that changing. This brewery (and Germany as a whole) ha...

Marquis d'Aqueria Tavel 2018 Rosé

Marquis d'Aqueria Tavel 2018 (Rosé) Grenache/Syrah There are a few things notable for me about this solid French Rosé, it is a Grenache-forward blend, it is a Tavel noted as just about the best Rosé, and it's the first Tavel in have tried (I think they can be a little expensive compared to typical ...

Firriato Chiaramonte Nero D'Avola 2015

Firriato Chiaramonte Nero D'Avola 2015 This is a Sicilian red made with the popular Nero D'Avola grape. The aroma opens a little astringent and sharply acidic, hints of berry and sundried tomato, maybe this could use some air. Raisiny notes come later. The taste is more generous red sweet-dry berry...

Nickel Brook Glory and Gold

I am now quaffing an Unibroue Autre Chose IPA a la peche, purchased from the LCBO. The strong peaches taste/aroma goes well with the citrus fruit hop tastes, an earthiness, and a yeasty spiciness. There is a lot going on in the palette, and it is all well balanced. I recommend it. Looking forward t...

Dona Matilda Duoro Reserve White 2016 Arinto

Dona Matilda Duoro Reserve White 2016 Arinto This one has a bit of steely acidity and dryness and some good citric-herbal layers and some minerality. Definitely serve chilled. Is it that exciting for almost $40, no but it's on clearout. It's still a classy drop. https://images.vivino.com/thumbs/z6A...

Selbach-Oster Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese 2016

Selbach-Oster Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese 2016 This is very good. A Mosel, This Germany winery has a number of Riesling bottlings out right now, and this one is as RP described above. I would add that the candy citrus peel is also nice, and there are hints of the petrol note that will deve...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Had the new Godspeed Taru Ichi barrel aged Porter and the new Baby Shizumu pale ale, so nice!

Now trying the 2016 Cascade Vitis Noble, wow definitely a great experience. Is about 30% off on clearance at Summerhill store. This sucker has looong flavours from the barrel ageing with Chardonnay grapes.

Château La Guilbonnerie 2014 Bordeaux $15.95

Château La Guilbonnerie 2014 Merlot/Cabernet Franc Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux, Right bank again. Almost two thirds less expensive than the bigger 2010 Siaurac is this nice little Merlo-Cab Franc. Has a bit of character and layers, tobacco blueberry and cherry, some younger fruit. Aroma a bit oddly san...
