Re: What're you drinking right now?

If you have a FOUNDERS CBS to crack open, this is certainly a nice hour for it.

Happy Canada stat holiday! Bourbon, chocolate, maple, coffee and stout. Wow.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Straffe Hendrink Quad - a flavorful and aromatic beast, needs to settle a day in the fridge to enjoy Founders Backwoods Bastard, last bottle of previous release - bourbon and oak is slightly boozy at room temp but I like it. Nice!

Kinda doubt it but I could be wrong - the Red House might have a cask option.

Castelas Rhone Red value

Les Grandes Serres Les Portes du Castelas 2015 Grenache/Mourvèdre Has savory and spicy complexity over a deep red-black fruit and acidic-dry base, nice! Little hints of quality Balsamic. Black fruit is cherry and berry, and the round structure has tannins holding it up well. Nose is unremarkable bu...

Mencia from Castilla y León

Gancedo Xestal Mencía 2010 Mencia grape (Spain)

A very nicely aged red showing smooth subtle oak and deep rounded dark fruit, notably plum skin and blackberry. Round tannins and hints vanilla. Med-full structure with solid dryness and acidity. Heck of a nice Spanish grape and wine style.

Re: Expiry Dates

I've asked Beyond the Pale about their lack of dates on their cans when i was at their brewery and they stated it would cost too much for them to do it. But then again, since they've expanded, they seem to be coasting on their reputation in the Ottawa area. The service at their new location is atro...

At Stone City Ales in Kingston! SCA Hard to Say DIPA Imperial IPA SCA Folklore Weissbier / Hefeweizen, brewed with the newer Callista hop that imparts fruit nuances besides some pleasant grassy and minty qualities. L-M 2015 Bordeaux

Château de Lafaurie-Monbadon 2015 Baron de Montfort This begins with oak over the dark fruit, aged oak. The gradual bloom of dark appealing fruit is very classy., touch vanilla and spice. Château L'Hospitalet La Clape Réserve Rouge 2014 Nice deep dark pour. Grenache Syrah Mourvèdre blend that was reduced substantially from its price pushing near thirty dollars. Castillon Bordeaux

Château Hyot 2014 Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux Garnet colour. Has great cherry-berry and tart cassis fruit and acidity, some nice light cedar sauna and woody herbal-spicy tones and mineral. Re: Expiry Dates

Hey Schomberger,

To be fair to you, most Ontario beer at the LCBO seem so to comply with the convention of BBD marking on products.

I had one Aromatherapy IPA and just assumed it might be a few weeks past its prime, it's an Ottawa area brew. Gosh knows how prompt the distribution is.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Collective Arts Prophets and Nomads - good summery Gose.
Sinha Stout (Lion Stout) - it remains an utter classic.
Founders CBS - it remains a typical coffee, chocolate, maple and bourbon-flavoured RIS. Utterly great.

Nebbiolo from Piedmont Italy.

Giacosa Scarrone Vigna Mandorlo Barolo 2010 I wanted to snag a decent Barolo and I was not disappointed. Garnet red look. Fairly dry tannins as a solid Nebbiolo-grape wine, yet approachable with dense dark cherry-berry fruit and acidity. Tobacco and herbs and and some meaty umami notes that really ...

Re: Bar Hop 3 at Danforth Pape

Had an excellent walk around Danforth. Only Cafe we jumping as always. Most draft beers are $7 with the tax in. Nearby Bar Hop 3 seems a bit quiet for a Friday. Wonder if it's the comparatively high prices for the (15oz) pours, plus the vibe of the place seems to lack something I can't put my finger...

Re: Uncorked-Wine and Spirits Appreciation

Domaine Mouréou Madiran 2014 Inky dark wine with brambly and pure dark fruit aromas. The cork and back label indicate this is a Laplace wine (this one and Chateau Addie produce a lot of the Madiran reds we see here.) Pretty good Madiran, this time with a full 70% Tannat and the other 30% unspecifie...
