Château Siaurac 2010 Bordeaux Merlot

Château Siaurac 2010 Lalande de Pomerol Bordeaux Here is a right bank Bordeaux that is mostly Merlot with some Cabernet Franc. The vaunted 2010 Bordeaux vintage can be quite expensive, much more than this so was nice to accesss a very mature, classic Bordeaux wine with interesting herbality and dry...

Rhône-ish Domaine de l'Edre Côtes du Roussillon-Villages 2017

Domaine de l'Edre Côtes du Roussillon-Villages 2017 Surprisingly young juicy and fruity initial approach, but quickly shows a lot of intense dark plum, blueberry and blackberry, then licorice and resinous garrigue herbals, hints leather. Has length! The Syrah in this could stand ageing. This is lik...

Wheat + Earl Grey, Cornflower, Coriander

EARL GREY WHEAT Can from LCBO, I agree this is more of a Witbier than an American pale wheat. Earl Grey? Well OK oil of bergamot orange is a citrus yes? Acceptable in wheat Ale? And there are often tea-like flavors in classic English ales, correct? I am pleasantly surprised at the nice dryness and l...

Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 2015

Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 2015 Here is a German Mosel-region Riesling white made to last for a few decades and develop in the cellar. Spätlese means late harvest (~selection) and this produces a bold and dense Riesling with more ripe sweetness, and it is vinted with relatively low alcohol ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

CIGAR CITY MARGARITA GOSE LCBO 15604 | 4x355 mL can SEASONAL/LIMITED QUANTITIES Easy going, should probably be served very cold, like many trendy examples is very tart and lemony and a bit salty, and not so much funk or complexity or interest. As with Ciders, it's hard to find a good Gose with ident...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Having a Sweetwater IPA, honestly not that exciting after a Bellwoods Jutsu but regardless it's fairly solid quaff.

We're so spoiled for IPA in 2020... I suspect this one is aged at no extra charge by the LCBO.

Also having a COLLECTIVE ARTS Mango Tangerine Sour. It's pretty good I think.

Re: Beer in Grocery Stores

I picked up Bellwoods Jelly King at the Superstore in Georgetown yesterday. Bottling date May 11. Never thought i would see that happen! Wow. This will be a notable shift away from LCBO (and even beer store) customers' buying habits towards grocery chains. Old inertia switching over to a new inerta...

Bottle shock / should we let beer 'rest'

Yeah so something weird happened with the Proximity Effect. I drank my second Crowler tonight and it's WAY better, Today it drinks way better and I don't think it's a (palate) thing It could also just be very freshly bottled / canned and needs a few days to a week to settle down. This is the 'bottl...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I am having a Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout for the first time, the non-oaked version.

I like the bit of roast and rich chocolate, I also find the caramel sweet element and green-woody hops are a little strong.

Re: Collective Arts

I will try anything CA does, this Pineapple Vanilla one didn't do much for me but hey, they make plenty of iterations of hoppy ales so I'm good! On a completely unrelated note, I just heard a trumpet player play "O, Canada" from an apartment balcony in Summerhill just after 7:30 PM. Everyb...

Re: Cigar City Marshal Zhukov Russian Imperial Stout

Agree with your assessment Belgian: flavour was great, but many good RIS. And at less cash. ... Willabald has a non-barrel, non-adjunct RIS now that I’ve heard good things about. None of these beers are $20 per 650ml though. There's cheaper than Zhukov, no argument but I still think it's worth it. ...

Re: Cigar City Marshal Zhukov Russian Imperial Stout

Nice beer. Not worth the $$ imo. +1 (not worth $20, even for 650Ml) I was wondering at the high price, but I like it. Heavily built. The flavors are dense and carry on for a loooong time... it's a good hybrid of UK traditional and USA style RIS, with some nice leathery tones setting off the ample r...
