Re: COVID19 affect on craft brewring industry

... Also, not to be nasty, as I said above, these businesses are someone's passion and employment, but on a purely quality basis, maybe some of the herd should be culled anyway. Let us hope the best survive, there's some really good talent and hard work going into Ontario brewing such that the qual...

Re: COVID19 affect on craft brewring industry

Fear on tap as COVID-19 chokes off small brewery sales "Veteran industry observer and beer writer Jordan St. John predicts COVID-19 could break a significant portion of craft brewers. "I would say that you're probably looking at something like a quarter to a third of the craft brewing ind...

2007 Pier Vila Res Barbaresco

Pier Vila Riserva Barbaresco 2007 I grab this on special from the Front and Spadina store while being rushed out at 6 PM yesterday. Wow, just noticed it is a 2007, that's quite a long time to age of wine before putting on the market. When I open it, this is a nicely tart dry Nebbiolo, hint of leath...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I had a Grandauer Export that is classed as a Dortmunder.

(Now having a Godspeed Otsukoresma which better deserves to be called a Dortmunder.)

Renato Ratti 2017 Nebbiolo

Renato Ratti Ochetti Langhe Nebbiolo 2017 When you see Langhe Nebbiolo, grab it. This one takes a bit of air to open it up, but you are rewarded with nicely acidic cherry and meadow herbs. The jammy berry undertones come into alignment after some air. Some florals play out on the finish. Nice dry r...

Pasquale Barbaresco 2016 Nebbiolo

Pasquale Pelissero Cascina Crosa Barbaresco 2016 Nebbiolo Well this is a big, deep serious Nebbiolo-based red from the Barbaresco DOC of the Piedmont, in northeastern Italy. Has layers of dark berry fruit and compote, cherry and sweet fruit under a positively ringing cherry acidity & gripping t...

GS Dortmunder

I keep asking myself: “is the Godspeed Dortmunder the best beer in the cit y right now?” I have a hard time not answering: “Yes, yes it is!” We are indeed lucky to have such a great brewer and brewery here. The Dortmunder and Kölsch and Svetly Lezak 10° have all been the BBITC at various times, for...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Hello there, Saturday Beer Drinkers... Having Godspeed Shizuoka West Coast IPA and a few Otsukaresama Dortmunder. This Dortmunder is obscenely tasty after some trail hikes out in the bluffs in glorious Southwest Scarborough. Luc Bim Lafontaine is a blessing to our humble Ville de Toronto. Wash your ...

Godspeed Fukami Munich Dunkel is very nice
While obviously not as heavy as a Doppelbock it has what are (for me) some complexities of a good Doppel. Nice dry balance to the malt profile with almost some umami and salt impressions, hints toffee and baked apple. I'll be having more of this one.

Bois de Menge Gigondas 2017 Southern Rhône

Bois de Menge Gigondas 2017 Grenache/Syrah Not a bad southern Rhône red, already silky. Has the expected ripe red and black berry and also some florals and phenolic spice box. Some cherry acidity and fine tannins, blueberry. Vanilla, li or ice root and umami elements. Maybe a bit riper fruit than s...

Godspeed Shizumu West Coast IPA

Went by Godspeed at 5pm, holy cow they were just labelling up some Dortmunder and were OUT of some things (or most things - home delivery is quite a success) so I got some fresh Shizumu West Coast IPA. This is extremely nice especially when it warms in the glass. Good resiny citrusy hop bite along w...

On The Rhône Again (Perrin Vacqueyras '16)

Famille Perrin Les Christins Vacqueyras 2016 Here is a tight presentation of a Southern Rhône red, which has more Grenache than Syrah and shows a ripe dark and red berry character offset by good dryness and acidity. Pepper and licorice. The flavor has a good wild strawberry presence, good poised Rh...

A tale of two Nebbiolo (Stefano Barolo)

Stefano Farina Barolo 2012 Nebbiolo So Barolo and Barbaresco share top-tier status as Piedmont, Northern Italian reds made with Nebbiolo grapes, sometimes with justification but that's hardly the full story. Gattinara is another medium-upper tier Nebbiolo red that can be close to those wines. And t...

Best Traditional ON Craft Brews

Innocente makes one of the best Pilseners and best Porters in the province. Saying they’re one of the worst breweries in the province just shows that “hazebros” shouldn’t rate beer. It’s like having someone only into peat bomb scotches tell me what bourbons they hate. Agreed. If anyone has the time...
