Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

Steam Whistle

I avoided this for a long time (bad rep) but heard that it was improved from softer water so I tried it recently.

A really nice casual pilsener, soft and floral, citrusy and lightly malty. I like it! Steam Whistle has arrived.

Price? Cant beat the LCBO price, period. We are talking about the same LCBO? You know, the one that does not offer wholesale pricing to licensees. Consumers won't get cheaper Saison Dupont or Chimay Bleu via private retail, I infer from Cass. But BA, licensees should get a break, regardless - it's ...

Re: Historical accuracy

Historical beer making seems like building construction... while some early beers may have been the pinnacle of traditional styles, numerous beers (like some buildings) were probably not that well made and/or had technical flaws best left in the past. We can't assume "old" was entirely &qu...

The Only Café on Broadview . The Only Cafe I believe is located on Danforth at Donlands across from a 7-11 store and not on Broadview. Yes there. I wasn't trying to pull a fast one, thanks for the correction! :) Parking free around the block. Closer to broadview you've got the Café Brussels, I have...

I think a lot of our Canadian identity is reflected in that cautious indecision... Well let's not rush into deciding what that Canadian identity is... we need a committee to stall and discuss it for 20 years before implementing some super-lame "Canadian identity" program costing us all lo...

Re: Rodenbach Grand Cru

I was at a small liquor store here in London the other day, and I was asking the manager about any seasonal releases, and he said he had cases upon cases of this crap that never ended up selling. Should I invest in a case? WIll it keep, age well? Is there any way the LCBo , or he, can drop the pric...

But if I understand correctly a fully-privatized system in the USA can get you good stuff, cheap with endless variety. ...sitting on an unrefridgerated shelf, and no return policy for when its gone bad. There are a lot of perks to TBS and LCBO that aren't provided in private systems. If the LCBO wo...

Excellent patio. Tried the St. Bernardus 12 today

Please tell your waiters not to whisk away empty bottles too quickly, we enjoy staring at the labels if we're still sipping on the glass of something special. See you again, JK.

** footnote ** they now do leave the bottles it seems. Feb 2006

The Only Café on Broadview has a cool little patio and some very decent grub* to go with your draught selection. This is an excellent, funky little place your girfriend will want to visit often for brunch, too. * Food selection was recently limited after about six PM just so you know, but I like it ...

Bottles are only 250 ml though, so it's not quite as cheap as local micros. Yes sheer volume. Well SD is a totally unique eight-percent beer, imported all the way from Belgium, and has a ton of flavor - all meaning that as "a single beer" it's still gives a lot of value for a 250 ml packa...

excerpt Here's what we've got in BC...a public/private system that is the worst of both worlds. The government has retained distribution rights more or less. There are very few products available at the private shops that aren't available at the government ones. And they are all more expensive, bec...

Re: Musings on a hot day...

... when you're trudging the pavement coated in a thin layer of perspiration... Musings? I saw that pavement too. It's a hot day when the pavement is actually perspiring. You should not get caught drinking in public though. I really like Rogue Half-E-Weizen when I'm outdoors, and have been known to...

What would they rather have, lose a few jobs to agency stores, or have everyone suffer by supporting a service that could be better serviced by an agency store? The LCBO/Beer store situation in the GTA and major cities is very different from a lot of ontario. I must be very tired, I read that first...

Poss. LCBO Strike - what do you think of this article?

http://ottawa.cbc.ca/regional/servlet/View?filename=ot-lcbo20050711 I find the OPSEU's stance so reactionary - they seem to want to keep things as they have been even if other retail models MAY (or have) prove to work better in some situations. He said the union fears regular liquor stores will be c...
