I like the Festa kits to quickly add to the pipeline. They make a decent beer, though I do dry hop them when I use them. Great for the dead of winter, when I really don't want to be outside for 4 hours.
I brewed a nice big barleywine the end of November, OG was 1.124. We pitched S-04, and had a nice big fermentation. 14 days in primary, we were down to 1.022, giving us a 13.82% ABV. Maybe. Or, it might be 15.38% ABV. Most calculators use; ABV = (og – fg) * 131.25 Seems that there is also an alterna...
If I had the space, I would have a keezer. There is the possibility of much more room. They are easy to build, lots of how to's on youtube. I bought mine in bits and pieces as I came across them, but have built a few for friends. Ordered from Beer, Beer and More Beer. Prices aren't great, but it cam...
Just got home from a parti-gyle batch. 4 gallons of barleywine hopped with fresh willamette, and 10 gallons of bitter hopped with fresh nugget. We were planning on doing a pumpkin stout today as well, but we were all a little slow starting today. I'll be doing the pumpkin Tuesday.
I was a founding subscriber of BA, and had a subscription for 2 years. I canceled it as I felt that I wasn't even getting $20 of value from it. I really don't like the editorial style, so don't visit the website often now either.

I would suggest the Magnotta kits. They make pretty tasty beer. You can start to gather the equipment that you will use long term while making these. Carboys, hydrometers, bottling buckets etc will be used no matter the process. Making the Magnotta kits will get you used to sanitizing your gear, and...
It is very easy to cut off the tops with an angle grinder as well. If you have a few to do, you can make a fixture that will loop over the valve and hold the dia you want. When I do the next ones, I will make the hole much smaller, approx 10", as it is easier to find lids of this size. You then...
