Re: Ontario Announces First Winning Bidders for Sale of Beer in Grocery Stores

No Whole Foods is surprising. But I wonder if they purposely didn't submit as they knew they couldn't deliver on their 'brand' with the Ontario rules. But it's a shame as they would have held themselves to a higher standard than the others. I hope they others prove me wrong. It's also just the firs...

Re: beerbistro

I think there are still a few ways to differentiate your draft list that people aren't doing. There are 125 breweries, 38 brew pubs, and 47 contract brewers in this province, yet draft lists at Volo/Bar-Hop etc focus on a subset of about 20-30 of them. You can make arguments that these 20-30 brewer...

And the LCBO was selling Bush Pilot Norsemen, an Ontario contract brewery, at 14.5% just a year ago.

This appeared in a package from a pal in Vancouver last fall/winter sometime and it blew me away. Was my first beer at this past Cask Days for a reason.

Shillow Beer

Anyone know this? A Toronto Brewery (probably contract brewed?). I hadn't heard of them until Folly posted a photo on Instagram of them (alongside Folly -- congrats!) on the beer menu at Bar Isabel, which I would assume to be a pretty good contract to have?

Re: Fin du Monde &17 Grand Reserva 6 L bottle release

It isn't a 6L of it, but the Parkdale LCBO of all places has a bunch of 750ml bottles of the 17 on the shelf right now. I don't remember seeing it as part of a Winter/Christmas release.

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I think we'd all be drinking a lot more Bellwoods if the prices were lower. But as has been said before, they have a tough time keeping up with demand and lowering prices would only exacerbate that problem. The fanboys that are willing to stand in line in the rain and then shell out 12 bones for a ...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I found that the Barrel-Aged Monogamy was the only real "miss" for me in terms of special releases in recent memory. I may like the Bellwoods house taste more than some, however.

Re: LCBO Winter craft beer release 2015

I'd love to do this, but 2010-11 was basically the height of the strength of the CAD, and I couldn't justify loading up regularly when we're at 75c on the US dollar. I'm envious of those who can. Yeah, I hear ya, although it depends on what you buy. As you know, there's still plenty of six packs of...

Re: Cask Days 2015

For those who went Friday night, how did you find the selection and did many things run out? Friday afternoon sounds perfect but I'm not sure I'll be able to sacrifice a vacation day and I'm wondering if Friday night is the way to go next year. They stopped serving Four Winds Nectarous sometime bet...

Re: Spot to Watch Jays in Toronto Friday 24th

Dock Ellis on Dundas at Dovercourt isn't going to blow anyone away with their beer selection, but it's a sports-bar first that has craft-only options (Naughty Neighbour is my all-game drink of choice there) and good TV/projectors. I caught Game 5 of the ALDS at Bar Hop 2 -- it was fine because I had...
