I think the idea was to not rush them out on the floor so us beer geeks who would show up and ask about it would all get a chance to try it. I'm sure after a day or two they all got out there.

This isn't a policy that bothers me at all. In fact, I approve of it.

I just went and got a couple. There were maybe 3 or 4 cases left, surrounded by quite a bit of the blue caps. Damn near brought a tear to my eye to see that much awesome beer for sale in Ontario all at once.

It's less of an issue for them because their stuff is so fresh. Just having it written on the wall when you buy is enough for me, though having it on the bottles was obviously great. It's a bigger deal for stuff in the LCBO. It would be nice to know if the IPA you're buying was brewed in the last 6 ...

Lowland malts are typically made from unpeated malt. Sweeter malts from Speyside will tend to have very little peat as well.

I've found that as a general rule Scotch barrels are a less forgiving medium to work with than others. It seems like a lot of stuff that goes in them gets overwhelmed by the flavours of the Scotch, whereas Bourbon barrels, for example, seem to have a lot more wiggle room.

It's hard to tell with a beer like this if the problem lies in inconsistencies from bottle to bottle, or if it's just different tastes loving and hating the abundance of smoke and peat. The only way to know for sure would be to find someone who has drank a bunch of it, which I haven't to date.

Although I think charging this proposed fee to Canadians is ridiculous, they haven't yet decided on the amount. For all we know it could be a low amount of $5 or less. If that is the case, it likely won't deter my beer runs but if it gets high enough, it might... Not only have they not decided on a...

It's because they have such a limited supply. The guy I talked to said he was holding it back because he knew if it went on shelves it would sell out in a day and he wanted to save it for people who actually asked for it and thus would be more likely to appreciate it.

The Summerhill LCBO has a sampling bar, but I believe each sample costs some amount of money. And only certain products are available for sampling. I overheard someone sampling a wine at Queens Quay last week. It cost her 50 cents. --- When I was getting my Elysian they hadn't set up the computers ...

I've had these in the states and thought they were much better. The ones I got from the LCBO were just plain stale.

It seems to me that pretty much ever since Duggan left, Mill Street have been chasing the very light beer segment. I've heard it described as they stopped trying to make beer for me and started trying to make beer for my girlfriend. While obviously an unfair generalization, it does ring true a littl...

It's only just starting to hit shelves now, so you haven't missed much.
