Ottawa Update: I just saw this stuff at the rideau k.e. store, first beer I've seen that comes packed on its side. Does that mean it is meant to be cellared on its side as well? I've read that Gueuze makers are known for ageing their beers on their side. I don't know if they all do it that way or n...

Maybe things are a little different in Ottawa, but I find in Toronto pretty much any LCBO employee will pull something out of the back for me.

I've read quite a few sources that cite aging Guezes and more generally Lambics and Sours on their sides because that's how the brewers do it. Heck, I think that's how an article on BA or RB (I can't remember which) says they do it. The general premise seems to be "damn any science that says ot...

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I have a question I'm hoping people can answer for me that's somewhat related. First a little background. You can skip this if you aren't that interested in my personal setup: I've got one of those big wine fridge cellar thingies too. I've been putting beers on th...

I spent the weekend in Niagara wine country, checking out the latest offerings from my usual wineries. I also randomly stopped in on a couple, just to see if I could find a hidden gem. What I stumbled on was a place called Kacaba. What stood out for them is they're a vineyard that focuses on reds an...

new listing, no stock yet: CENTRAL CITY IMPERIAL IPA FOR AUTISM LCBO 340901 | 650 mL bottle Price: $ 9.60 Interesting. I assume this is not different than their regular Imperial IPA aside from the fact that part of the proceeds are goign to autism? That's what it sounds like. According to their web...

I guess what I was getting at is since a Geuze is a mix of two already aged beers, what's the basis for there being a general guideline for how long you should age a Geuze before drinking? Unless it's just about giving it enough time for the source Lambics to fully blend and get to know each other, ...

When you say it's already 2 years old, what does that mean exactly? The descriptions online say it's a blend of a 4 year old Boon lambic with another Lambic from 2008.

The secularists fought long and hard to get a secular state, so they'll riot over pretty much any government action that they think is a step towards religion. I'd be in that boat. Both there and here. Yeah, but it's not a serious worry here. I don't think we'll see the clerics taking over Parliame...

Turkey is a very different place than Canada. Their population is a mix of people who are proudly and adamantly secularist and people who are devout Muslims who favour religious law. The secularists fought long and hard to get a secular state, so they'll riot over pretty much any government action t...

Does the LCBO website ever update during the day? I don't think I've ever noticed stock change as the day went on.

It's pretty sad, actually. Putting together a system that reflects real-time stock levels isn't very hard.
