I know Josh will disagree with me on this, but I've always hoped that maple beers would be more embraced by brewers of Canada. Not that needs to be, or would be a "national" style, but a maple beer (to me) is definitively "Canadian". The Niagara Maple Wheat from a few years ago was a nice brew, and ...

Hi Perry,

As we chatted about yesterday at the Judge, I believe there is definite interest in Ontario for a real IPA. It is a tremendous void that I'm sure Scotch Irish can fill successfully!

Well I make the trek to Hamilton yesterday for the JudgeFest. I'd never been before, to the bar itself or to the fest, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was definitely an interesting time. The attending breweries were set up at tables throughout the bar. From what I was hearing, there was a compar...

I agree, it was a fun fest, with a great deal of beers to sample. The Belle Gueule was definitely a disappointment. I hope it was just the keg, as this beer has been picked up by a local distribution company, and we'll see it in more Toronto bars soon. Alongside C'est What, it's also currently avail...

According to Church Key, they are preparing to release their next special beer, a chocolate porter in early/mid October. Not sure where this might show up in Toronto, but Joe's is probably a good bet. Kudos to Church Key for experimenting with brews we don't always see around these parts. This porte...

I believe it will be called "X" and come in at a warming 10% alcohol. I don't know too much more about it, but I don't think it's coming to Ontario.

As the great Unibroue 12-pack is not longer in production, it will be replaced with a new 8-pack of beers: <img src="http://www.unibroue.com/images/caisse8.jpg"> Not sure what is exactly going to be in this pack, but if I had to guess, I'd say most likely the minor brands (Sans Nom, Kamouraska, St-H...

I'd say it will be most of their current taps & bottles - see http://www.cestwhat.com/beer.html, plus the "interesting" beers listed above. C'est What usually uses their beer fest as a mass-unveiling of a bunch of new taps.

Yep, its on the 13th, at 2pm I believe. I don't know anything about it, I was just recently invited. This is what they had on their website about the last one: April 28th 2001: This is the date scheduled for our semi-annual BeerFest. We invite a dozen or so brewers to showcase their products. Attend...

I have an invite to the Judgefest, so this plus C'est What looks like another wild beery weekend.

Maybe I'll see you guys at C'est What...I'll be the one shamelessly handing out coasters.

Is anyone going to the next Winking Judge beer fest? I have heard it is next weekend. Has anyone been to one in the past?

Just an FYI on the subject of lambics, I was at the Bayview Village LCBO today, and they still had a fair amount of Boon Kriek & Framboise. It looks like they want to clear them out, because they are discounted about $0.50 or so.

This seems to be a recurring topic around here - what's new at Smokeless Joe's. I was down there last night and Czechvar had arrived and being served. Czechvar, aka Budweiser Budwar, is a nice, clean pilsner from the Czech Republic. Quite flavourful. Joe also had many (if not all) of the Fall beers ...

Wow, I didn't know the Bar Towel had such influence  As for KLB's stout, I have heard nothing from them other than the name was changed from "Blue Moon" to "Blue Chair". There's supposedly a story behind that. KLB is about to move into a new facility in Peterborough, so I wouldn't expect anyt...
