Re: Montreal

This weekend I am heading to Montreal. I will be staying downtown without access to a car. I plan on visiting Dieu du Ciel. Any other recommendations for breweries or bars in the downtown would be appreciated. I like sours, trappings styles, IPAs as and IIPAs. Also, if you have recommendations for i...

Re: Maverick Brewing

I have returned to Northern Maverick, and I wanted to report on the beers I tried there. The Carraway Rye Saison (can't remember the actual name off the top of my head) was okay, but a bit unbalanced. It's sweet and sour, but probably too sweet for a saison, and little too astringent. Next, I tried ...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

At Craft in Liberty Village:
Danforth Brewery Snowbird - This is a very good coconut porter. I found the coconut subtle yet present, and the malt and yeast complexity is quite good.

Re: Collective Arts - Stranger Than Fiction Porter review

I found it ok but a bit boring myself. Too bad, because Collective Arts has some good beers. This beer could do with some more hops or a more complex yeast strain. I really liked it, but then Clifford Porter came along and now it's my go-to porter. At the time there were pretty much no regularly av...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

MacLean's IPA - a good English hopped IPA. If you like this style, make sure to try it, if you haven't already.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I too am drinking a Cascade Apricot Ale. When I bought this beer, I was a little reluctant to part with over $20 for 750ml of beer. Well, let me tell you it was worth it. This beer is right up there with brews from my favourite brewery, Cantillon. The apricot has all the funky complexity of a good ...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

While I am on the subject of quads. A few months ago, I bought one of my favourites: St. Bernardus Abt. Usually, it is one of the best examples of the style. However, this bottle was off. The flavours were muted, and it could have been slightly infected. I am wondering about the quality control now....

Re: What're you drinking right now?

At the moment I'm having the Grand Cru Val-Dieu. Moving on to a Straffe Hendrik Quad next. Curious about your thoughts on both of these. I have a Strafe Hedrik cooling its heels for later in the week, and plan on picking up the Val Dieu shortly. I quite enjoyed the Abbaye des Rocs, but felt that it...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Recently, I also had a Grand Cru Val-Dieu at Beer Bistro for about $30 (750 ml). Now, I am kicking myself for seeing it for less than a third of that price at the LCBO. Decent quad, but definitely not worth the $30 I paid for it. However, yesterday, I had an Abbaye de Rocs, which is a bargain for $6...

Re: Big Rock Brewery

For those curious, I am now drinking the kriek at big rock:s liberty common bar. It is sour acidic and dry as expected, with plently of kriek fruit flavour. It is not as conplex as some lambics I have had, but for a first attempt it is well made. It is missing the aged cheesey hop flavour of most la...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

From Big Rock's Liberty Common: Citradelic IPA - not bad Chaga Stout - absolutely terrible. What was I thinking drinking mushroom beer? From Wurst: Nickelbrook Cheeky Bastard on cask - nice Roayl City Barrel aged Brett Quad - excellent! Nice balance and integration of the sour but not overpowering b...
