Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

Arguably so, Belgian. But the question persists: what is the Bud and Coors Light doing in your fridge in the first place?

Just in case anyone is sitting on the fence with respect to this cruise, I'm told that space is selling fast so you might not want to wait much longer, In fact, 5 out of the nine cabin classes are now sold out completely.

You don't know the half of it, Jon. I'll be hitting Stone after four days of San Francisco Beer Week, including The Bistro's Double IPA Fest.

Ah, the sacrifices I make for my work!

Damn, I'm going to be in California for this. Guess I'll just have to content myself with a night at the World Bistro during the Stone Winter Storm.

(Sorry, couldn't resist...)

As an interesting aside, I was speaking yesterday to the beer manager of a fairly sizable chain of beer bars operating mainly in the southeastern US. We were speaking of imported beers, their prices and profit margins, and he revealed that for many imported beers, his company pays more per unit whol...

Those Ontario servings could be perhaps 250ml 330ml and 500 ml - the basic sizes you could relly on to be the same everywhere for almost all draught product sales - much as in England you have the Third, Half and Full pint, and it is the same everywhere for THOSE sizes . Does that really mean they ...

The glasses in the UK do have to be verified in size, but they do not have to be either standard or lined. In fact, most are not lined, hence CAMRA's long-running Honest Pint campaign. I'm all in favour of bars and restaurants saying the amounts they sell and selling the amounts they say, but the ar...

In the UK, as I understand it, there are standards for pour sizes, not glasses - one-third, one-half and full pints, or multiples of one-half pint, ie: 30 oz., or 1.5 pints. This is legislation that was fiercely defended by punters and publicans during the metrification of the land. In Ontario, on t...

I first tasted the Schlenkerla Lager while on a beer press trip of Southern Germany. Although we had been to Bamberg, I think, two days earlier, we didn't pop the Lager until the final bus ride from Kulmbach to Munich, when we were all relaxing and opening up whatever happened to still be laying aro...

it's Harry Drung of HHD Imports. He was also responsible for the Hofbrau Oktoberfest, which means at least that he's been a bit active of late in beer circles.

Note to Beer Traders

In my business, I occasionally receive samples that have been shipped a significant distance. Sometimes the packaging is as simple as bubble pack and a box, but increasingly it's becoming more sophisticated and use-specific. Since I hate throwing this stuff out, I'd like to offer it to traders who m...

A friend of mine is opening a fine dinning type resteraunt. I saw that he was deciding on the beer selection and jumped at the chance to bug him. The interesting thing about it is that you almost have to sign an exclusivity contract with a line of beers. I pushed him towards Sleemans as they have t...

I confess, I'm confused as to why this is even a viable topic. Elsewhere on The Bar Towel I have seen easy condemnation of commercially-oriented beers left, right and centre -- just recently an obvious troll was pilloried for suggesting an MGD event at The Hideout -- yet here are Towellers talking a...

The difference, I would guess, would be pasteurization. Kegged Guinness and Brahma are, Bud Light and 50 aren't. LGD is more tightly filtered, so it falls somewhere in the middle.
