Re: LCBO Xmas Release 2017

No samual smiths winter warmer For the first time in, what, 20 or 25 years? WTF? Now that I think about it, I haven't really seen any Samuel Smith's beers in any 'BO for at least a few months, if not the better part of a year. The only Sam Smith product still in the LCBO database is their Organic A...

Re: LCBO Winter Release 2017

Also, any visibility on which Abbaye des Rocs beer will be available? I sort of just assumed the Grand Cru given the general theme of the release but it doesn't actually specify.

Re: LCBO Winter Release 2017

As a big fan of potent and soulful malt-forward beers, there is plenty in the above list to get excited about :D

I presume the Cuvee du Chateau is from Van Honsebrouck? Anyone know how this one compares to their Kasteel Donker if so?

So good to see Van de Keizer Blauw return - and still under $10 no less!

Re: Ontario brewed Tripels...

Sawdust City had a glorious tripel (11% but no boozy taste at all) called 11.05. I picked up some cans at their brewery in May, no idea if it's still in stock but damn, it was delicious. This is a collaboration with Nickel Brook. As best I know, they have alternated over the years which brewery the...

Where did you see this?
Tomas Morana responded to an email that I sent and told me that they will be releasing the list next Monday.

Re: Ontario brewed Tripels...

Folly's Kallipolis is another example of an Ontario brewed tripel (and quite a good one at that). Sadly, it's never been part of their bottle shop offerings and isn't available at all right now.

Re: Cask Days 2017

I followed through and sent an email. Tomas was god enough to send a quick response and apparently they will now release the list the Monday before the festival, which makes a huge difference and has put my mind at ease.

Re: Ontario brewed Tripels...

I've long lamented the lack of consistently available, good quality Ontario-brewed tripels as it is one of my favourite styles and definitely under-represented. Very few brewers have taken a cut at brewing a tripel, and those that do often feel compelled to put a twist on the style (e.g., barrel-agi...

Re: Cask Days 2017

That's horrible news regarding the release date of the beer list. I'm out of town on business the day before the event; I have no idea how I'll find the time to figure out what to target. I'm a huge fan of this event, but I do intend to drop an email to the organizers to express my concern with the ...

Re: Parsons Brewing Company

Was at Wvrst on Saturday and noticed The Father (an 8% ABV stout) by Parsons was pouring. I hadn't heard of Parsons, but I love a nice strong stout so decided to give it a chance. Not bad but fairly mild compared to most imperial stouts (locally made and otherwise) that I've had. Did a quick search ...

Re: Maverick Brewing

I visited briefly on Saturday with some friends before we moved on to a few other places. It's a big space and it was very full for a place that hasn't even formally launched. I tried their hefeweizen and found that it was true to the style with no off flavours. I'd say it finishes a little more cri...

Cask Days 2017

Surprised that there isn't already a thread going for Cask Days this year.

List of participating breweries is now out:

http://festival.caskdays.com/producers

In addition to the NY feature, there are some returning breweries from Oregon and California from years' past and a few from Maine as well.

Re: Ripasso and Beyond

Here's an interesting one, and reasonable. Made with a later addition of dried grape skins that are not previously used for Amarone as is the case with Ripasso. Allegrini Palazzo della Torre If the link in your previous message is correct, it sounds like this wine is a blend of grapes that are vini...

Re: Barone Montalto Collezione di Famiglia Passivento Nero d'Avola 2015

I could see the dual appeal; the added concentration of dense wine grape flavors and potentially also a bit of an umami / meaty / wild herbal element from all the additional exposure to wild flora in the open air, maybe a little positive oxidation - is this accurate to surmise? Yes, that about sums...
